The Eyes of the Sun and Moon

The Eyes of the Sun and Moon

She opens her window to invite the cool night breeze into her room. The moonlight turns her skin ethereal pale, her hair silver blonde, and her eyes a crystal blue. Her white nightgown flows about her like mist. As she pulls her slender fingers through her fine hair, a single strand falls free and floats through the window into the night. Gooseflesh begins on her skin and she shivers like a flower caught in a storm. Glancing at the clock she releases a breathy sigh. It’s one a.m., but again she cannot sleep. Every night for the past month it’s been like this. Every night there’s an aching deep in her chest. Every night she’s restless until the early morning hours. She leans out her window, staring up at the stars. Longing fills her heart. She pulls the window shut but leaves the curtains drawn back. She slides back into bed and pulls the sheets tight around herself. Closing her eyes, she finally drifts off to sleep, moonbeams caressing her rosy cheeks.
