What She Found

"Are you okay?"

Maya gripped his hand. The bruises faded from her face, but she still winced when she sat up.

Reese smiled. "I'm okay, the bastard just knocked the wind out of me. But I don't think he's our guy. He's a patient of Dr. Copeland's."

Maya rubbed her head. "I'm sorry you have to go through this alone. Ugh, I wish I could get out of this hospital bed and back to work."

"Me too." He squeezed her fingers. "I just want to find a way to end all of this for Hayden. She's not safe until this is over."

"Isn't she staying with Copeland?"

"She is, but whoever did this went after him as well. And you."

"So no one is safe," Maya said quietly.

"And he won't stop until he gets her, " Reese whispered.
