What She Found

Chapter 25

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 20 - 10:00AM

Hayden sipped her coffee, and looked at Hunter from her spot behind the receptionist desk. He was at the front door, staring out at the parking lot.

"Ryan didn't show up for his appointment," he said. "I'm wondering if he just forgot and will show up soon."

"Want some coffee?" she asked.

Hunter turned to her, frowning. "That's definitely not what I need right now. Have you heard from Detective Danvers?"

"Not for a while," Hayden answered. "The last time I saw him was when he took Ryan down to the precinct for questioning."

Hunter's eyes widened. "Ryan would never hurt you."

Hayden busied herself with paperwork. "What do you know about him, aside from his mental state? I know you can't really tell me anything."

"He likes you, a lot. He gets excited to see you."

Hayden's heart thudded.

"That's why Reese questioned him. He thinks Ryan likes me, and you said he wouldn't hurt me. The person who broke into my home and attacked me—"

"It wasn't Ryan," Hunter said, shaking his head. "Trust me."

Hayden closed her eyes.

Could she really trust anyone?
