What She Found

Chapter 31

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 21 - 2:30PM

Reese held the phone in his hand, scrolling through the texts. He sighed and handed it back to Hayden, then wrote something down on a notepad.

"There's not much I can do," he said. "I'm sorry."

"Can't you locate him?"

He frowned. "I would be able to do that if Mason hadn't covered his tracks."

"He killed someone. Doesn't that matter?"

"Of course it matters," Reese said. "But we don't have much to go on. There wasn't much evidence at the crime scene."

"How is that possible?"

"It happens."

"That's not helpful."

Reese sipped his coffee. "We're doing everything we can."

"I understand," she said. "How is Maya doing?"

"She's still recovering," Reese replied. "She should be back to work soon. I know she's trying to push herself, which isn't a good idea."

"We need all the help we can get. I'm going to let Hunter know what's going on. Thanks for everything."

When she left and was finally alone, she texted Hunter. The conversation didn't go the way she thought.
