What She Found

"You're staying with me until Hunter gets back," Reese said, shifting the phone to his other ear. "You need to be safe from Mason, and I can help you."

"What about Maya?" she asked. "Mason already ran her down with his car. He could have killed her. And he went after Hunter too. Aren't you worried about yourself? Don't you wonder why he hasn't come after you yet?"

He's quiet for a moment. "He goes after people who are in his way, who are protecting you. Except for Ryan. He killed him because he snitched. But how did Mason know?"

"I don't know, that's what you're supposed to be figuring out."

"I'm working on it," he told her. "I'll text you my address. There's a key under the welcome mat. Come by any time. I have to go now. We'll talk later."

Her phone pinged, and she glanced at it.



She hoped this would make her feel safe again, but she doubted it.
