Chapter 12

Games have been going well, we’ve won the past few, but always in the back of my mind I couldn’t stop thinking about Lucy. I know I should be patient and wait for her to text me, but I can’t. I feel like she’s just going to be like the other girls. “Sidney, if you’ve seen the baggage that she carried then you’d understand that she’s busy. She has things going on.” My mother tells me when I talked to her. “You’re right,” I respond. “I just- I don’t know.”
“Sidney, I promise you she’s going to come. You just have to wait.”
“Well, I’m going out with the guys so maybe that’ll get my mind off things.”
“Have fun, I love you.”
“Love you, too. Tell Dad and Taylor hi.”
“I will.”

I hung up and sighed. There’s going to be a lot of puck bunnies tonight, I just know it.
I get in the shower and as soon as I get out the buzzer at the gate goes off. Towel wrapped around my waist. I go downstairs and open the gate and before I know it there’s banging on the door. “Alright, alright.” I open the door and the guys come pouring in. By guys it was the usual, Kris, Malkin, Jake, and Conor. “Why aren’t you dress?” Jake asked.
“Because you guys are early by 45 minutes.”
“Cause we wanted to get there early. Svetlana is going to be there.” Conor says wiggling his eyebrows.
“Don’t you have a girlfriend?” I ask.
“No, we broke up. Irreconcilable differences.”
“Let me get dressed. Give me 10.”
“10 or we’re dragging you out in your underwear.” Kris says.

I go upstairs and get dressed in jeans and a sweater. I hop down the stairs whilst tying my one shoe. “I’m ready.”
“Just got a text, and Svetlana is a twin.”
“I’ll take the other one.” Jake says.
I roll my eyes. “Let’s go.” I grab my coat and put it on, and I grab my keys and phone.
“I have a surprise for you.” Kris tells me.
We get to Malkin’s minivan. He purchased it when him and his wife found out they were expecting.

We get to Redbeard’s, the usual and already to blondes wearing nothing but Pen’s jersey’s and thigh high boots walk up to Jake. “Hello, ladies. Have you met Conor?”
I roll my eyes. “You act like you’ve never had your puck bunny days, Sid.” Kris says to me.
“Yeah, I did and then I realize how disgusting I felt afterwards. You didn’t call one up did you?”
“Hell no, I love Leanne too much.” I take a sip of beer and he turns to look at the door. “Speak of the devil.”
I looked over at his direction which is the door and I gasped. Not because of Leanne, but because of who was with her. It was Lucy.

“I really don’t want to be here.” I tell Leanne.
“Sweetie, with the shit you’ve told me you need to be here. A bottle of Jack would do you some good. And I’m buying, so let’s get drunk. Plus, your therapist says that what you did was a good thing. Plus, I have a surprise for you.”
I was confused when she waved at the guy waving at her. It was Kris, and next to him was Sidney. Through gritted teeth I leaned into Leanne’s ear and said. “I could kill you. You planned this?”
“I had help from Kris. Besides, Sidney could just be the type of stress reliever you need.”
I sigh and I walked slowly to the guys. Leanne ran as fast as she could in 6 inch boots and hugged Kris, then shoved their tongues down each other’s throats in front of the entire bar. She was with him Thursday.

I walk nervously towards Sidney who nervously put his hands in his pockets. I twist my lips and said. “You didn’t know about this either?” He shakes his head. “No, I didn’t. How are you?”
I don’t know why but I proceeded to tell him everything. “That sucks, I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be, that’s my life in a nutshell. And that’s why I just… Give me some time, okay?”
“I want to be with you I just… I need advice. Though I don’t know why you’d want to see me after I just told you I’m seeing a therapist.”
“Hey, you just describe to me your whole family. I now need to see a therapist.”
That made me laugh, something I don’t remember doing for a long time.

“What you’ve done has been the most therapeutic for you. Taking yourself out of a stressful environment.” My therapist, Vera says to me. It’s been a week since I’ve seen Sidney. I need advice “There’s this guy, I like him, but-”
“But what? If you like him then give him a chance.”
“You left that house so you can try to live your own life.”
“But how am I living my own life when I go there and check up on them once a week, and I still pay the bills over there. I’m still there in a sense just not physically.”
“Yes, but you’re trying to live your own life, if that involves dating then date. Who’s the lucky guy?”
“His name is Sidney. I met him through Leanne.”
“Give him a chance.”
I nod. I thanked her before she left.

“You should text him.” I stare at his name in my contacts. “You think?”
“Duh, try. And you don’t have to tell your mom. Unless she’s back to normal.”
“Everytime I’m there she leaves. I haven’t seen her since.”
“Live your life. Text him.”
“I’ll call him, I hate texting.”

I pressed call next to his name and put the phone to my ear. It took a few rings but he answered.
“Sidney, it’s Lucy. I’m ready.”
