"He's drinking again," I said.

Isaac was next to me, propped against a pillow, reading. He dropped the book and turned his head, his expression hard.

"What an asshole." He was quiet for a moment, the next words out of his mouth stunning me. "Do you ever wish he died, Nina?"

I didn't say anything.

"If he was gone, you would be free," he whispered.

He reached for me, and I curled into him.

"He's caused so much pain. I just wish he'd stop."

"Don't worry, he will," Isaac murmured.
