Revelations

Now

Isaac glared at me as the officers took him by the shoulder roughly. I stayed out of the way, by the wall, while he was escorted from my house.

My hand shook, still holding the phone. The dial tone was low and faint.

I didn't have a choice.

I slipped outside, staring at the red and blue lights.

"It didn't have to be this way," Isaac said as he ducked into the police car. "You know you wanted him gone, too, Nina."

"Don't talk to her," one of the officer snapped.

I closed my eyes when my phone vibrated.

I glanced at the screen. It was Kayla.

What's going on? The street's blocked off. I've been trying to get through.

Instead of texting her back, I called.

"The police took Isaac, it's over," I said.
