"Nina, what have you done?"

"Oh my God."

I turned to face my mom and sister. They were looking at me with equally horrified expressions, bathed in red and blue lights from the cop car that idled by the curb.

Paramedics exited the house, pulling a stretcher with them. It was covered with a white sheet, but I could see the blood soaking through.

There was so much.

"I found him," I whispered.

Mom shook her head. "No, no. I remember the fight you had tonight. You told him—"

"I didn't mean it," I snapped, tears stinging my eyes. "I would never."

"But you said it." This from Kayla, her eyes wide. "And now he's dead."
