To the Bone
When my time comes around
Lay me gently in the cold, dark earth

Adeline was quiet as she held the skull in her small hands, a pained look on her face. She gently ran her fingers over the cheekbones.
“So, what do you think doctor?” Spencer asked softly. “Can you identify them?” She nodded.
“I know this face, Spencer.” She whispered. “It’s the face of my mother, my grandmother…” She stopped, pressing her lips together tightly. “All these victims are Native American women.”
They both turned, looking at the buckets of bone shards they still had to assemble. “But some of these,” Spencer paused. “Some of these are over a hundred years old.” She nodded, tears in her eyes.
“Someone has been killing them for a very long time.”

But no grave can hold my body down
I’ll crawl home to her.
