Walk Through Hell

[20]

We walked in through the garage door.

I walked into the kitchen, dying of thirst.

After I got some water, I started on my homework.

I finished up in an hour. I had to start cleaning, after that.

Our parents were, apparently, coming back tomorrow.

After tidying up the few rooms we had been in, I decided it was time to sleep.

It was like, 9:00, but whatever. I'm tired!

A banging noise woke me up.

Blurry-eyed, I looked at the clock.

11:57

The noise came again. My eyes shot to the window.

I clambered out of bed and over to the window. I opened it.

"Hey, Lex!" He whisper-yelled.

"Jake? Is that you?"

"Yeah. Come down!"

"What are you doing?"

"We're sneaking out!"

"Jake, this is your house. Why are you throwing rocks?"

"Just play along, will you?"

"I'll be down in a minute."

"NO! Climb through the window!"

"WHAT? Why?"

"Because, that's the way it works. Your parents might catch you."

"I'm currently the only one in this house."

"Just play along!"

"Fine!" I whisper-yelled, finally succumbing. I threw on a pair of sweatpants over my boy shorts and climbed out the window.

I jumped onto the tree outside his window, and climbed down.

"Happy?" I asked.

"Ecstatic! Follow me."

"Jake.... I can't see."

He grabbed my hand. Where the hell was he taking me? Was he going to rape me or something?

Why the hell did I come down?

We walked over to the wall between our two houses.

Awe, how sweet, he had a picnic set up.

"Jake, you didn't have to do this."

"You like it," was all he said back.

He pulled out a nice Cabaret Sauvignon.

He retrieved two glasses from the basket, also.

We sat in the light of the moon and drank our wine.

"So, how long is it going to take for you to date me?" He asked, completely serious.

I laughed, "A week from tomorrow."

He looked up at me. My eyes were almost completely adjusted to the dark.

"I'll take you up on that."

He had a really nice smile.

"So tonight is our last night together," I said, trying to start up a conversation.

"You gonna miss it?"

"Sorry?" I pretended I didn't hear him, stalling.

"You gonna miss it? You know, staying up late together, driving to school together, sharing a bed with each other, making breakfast for each other, eating together, everything."

I noticed everything he said ended in either 'each other' or 'everything.'

"Yeah. It's like spending two weeks with your best friend."

He looked up at me, a glint in his eye. "Best friend?"

I chuckled. "I meant like a best friend."

"Best friend is a start." I knew what he meant.

"So why are you so keen on getting in my pants?"

He frowned a little, but recovered. "I've aleady done that." I blushed and looked down at my glass.

"Well then why do you want to date me?"

"Because you're something else." He replied with out a pause.

"I'm just another girl, come on," I said, a little sad.

"Really, Lex. You mean a lot to me."

I looked up at him, looking in his eyes.

"You don't mean that," I told him, on the verge of tears.

Ben was the only person who had ever said that to me.

And look how that turned out.

"I really do, Lex."

"I... I have to go." I said, a little rushed, and dropped my glass.

I booked it over the fence and back inside. I went to the couch and grabbed myself a cover.

And I cried.

I cried myself to sleep.

Jake's POV

What is with her?

I mean, I set up everything.

This is the second date I've tried.

And she just won't budge.

I have to figure out what makes this girl crack.

It's funny, at first, I wanted to get my revenge.

Get my revenge for our ever-lasting feude we were in.

But now-- now I want her to fall in love with me. As much as I've fallen in love with her.

And I'm not giving up.
