Prologue

The drowsiness hit Specimen 6731 like a tsunami crashing over a city. It felt excruciating pain hit its shoulder, though the pain dulled as its eyes grew heavier.
“It is done,” said a female voice. Specimen 6731 tried to focus on her. Dark brown hair, tied back into a ponytail. Wearing a dark blazer and tie. Sunglasses covering her eyes. 6731 tried to remember more, to make sure its eyes stayed open, but the task was fruitless.
“When will he wake up?” A different voice asked, deeper, but less commanding. Most likely male. Now 6731 knew he was male as well. It was scary he didn’t know his own sex. Or age. He felt young, though.
“In about a month or so. Also, Professor Beowulf, I must request you to refer to the newest specimen we have procured as it,” the lady said, her voice like an unforgiving snowstorm in a tundra, “The people at SDP Headquarters—including me—would not like any of our researchers and/or scientists to become attached to this one, in case anything—“
6731 couldn’t hear anything after that. The voice faded in volume as 6731 gave into the temptation of drowsing off, not knowing if he would wake up, and what would happen after.
