Lost Rivals

Return Of An Era

Tillie was now seated comfortably in the front seat of a bright orange SUV chatting nervously to Adrienne while Billie sat in the back seat and observed happily.

Tillie felt so out of place. Adrienne was talking about a fashion label she designed for and about the new summer line that was due out next week. Adrienne was trying her hardest to find a common topic with the teenager but Tillie would offer a bit of information and then clam up. Adrienne watched Tillie fiddle with the zip of her jacket and stare unseeingly out of the window out of the corner of her eye and couldn’t help but feel sorry for her.

Just a little while before the three of them were driving to Billie and Adrienne’s home in Oakland, Tillie Ilene had been overcome with some strange joy after meeting with Adie and she couldn’t help but cry and cuddle the older woman. Now, the only thing Tillie could manage was to say “Yes.” And “No.” This was all too strange and foreign to her.

“We’re almost home, Tillie,” Adrienne began. “You see that double story sandstone house over there? That’s our place.”

Tillie’s reply was an awe stricken gasp as she noted the size and glamour of the house. “Wow, it’s gorgeous!”

Billie chuckled happily to himself. “Hey, Adie, are the little rugrats home?”

“Those ‘rugrats’ are your own sons! And I left them with Mike for now. I want to have Tillie settled in for starters, and then the boys can meet her if Tillie isn’t too tired.”

Tillie yawned. She was a little tired; I guess shock and jetlag can do that to a person. The only thing she wanted was for this nightmare to be over and she wanted to talk to Jessica again. But for now, a sleep would be great.

“THIS is my ROOM!” Tillie Ilene screamed when Adrienne directed her upstairs of their house and into a guest bedroom.

The room was quite extravagant; there was a four poster bed in the center of the room with red and black silk sheets. The room was painted black and pink with a green feature wall and the walls were donned with various posters of various bands; mainly The Ramones.

“Yeah, Tillie unless you don’t like it.”

“NO I love it, this room is amazing!”

“Okay, there are some clothes in the wardrobe over there and there are some supplies in the bathroom if you would like to take a shower and have a nap? I’ll come and check up on you shortly.”

Having said that, Adrienne turned and strode away from Tillie, leaving her to wander around her new room in awe.

“Maybe this isn’t going to be so bad after all. A girl could get used to this.” Tillie murmured out loud to herself.

She grabbed a t-shirt and a skirt from the wardrobe and padded into her room’s adjoining bathroom. She could help but take a few steps back upon entering.

The marble tiles, the massive porcelain bath and shower! The bathroom’s colors were lavender and lemon and there were matching towels to go with the color scheme.

Tillie thought she would faint from shock but her mobile phone beginning to ring snapped her out of her thoughts. Tillie reached into her pocket and removed her phone and checked the caller ID

“Oh no, not him he can’t be back!” Tillie shivered and dropped her phone.

She stayed frozen on the spot just gaping at her phone ring from the tiles. Finally it stopped and went to her voicemail. After about a minute she managed to function enough to pick it up again and listen to the voice message that was left.

“Well, well, well. You thought you could hide from me? Think again you little bitch! I know where you are and you owe me. Just wait, you’ll be seeing me again. Later Tillena.” The message ended with the crazed man on the end of the phone let out an almighty cackle and slam his end of the phone down harshly.

Tillie immediately dropped to her knees and began sobbing her heart out. She didn’t seem able to stop crying. Her body shuddering violently with every sob.

“Now what am I going to do!” She wailed.
