Epitome of Perfection

Would this be permanent?
Would my mother come to her senses?

I didn’t even know whether it was reality or not; a part of me hoped it was. That was why I didn’t roll over. I just wished and prayed Gerard was lying next to me, in the same place I remember.

Instead, I reached for my phone that was on the bed-side table.
Two missed calls from Mum.
Frowning, I threw the phone onto the ground and sighed. I didn’t want to talk to her right now. I didn’t want to talk to anybody in my family in general. I just wanted to lie here, next to Gerard – hopefully – and think.

‘’Ari?’’ Gerard whispered. ‘’Are you awake?’’
His arms slithered around my waist before I had a chance to answer.
‘’Yeah. ‘Morning,’’ I said softly, closing my eyes.

His breath danced on my skin, as his bare chest warmed up my back. I didn’t want to move. I could stay like this forever, until our hearts stopped pumping blood around our motionless bodies. I could hear the wind flowing in between the branches of the trees, causing shadows to appear on the grass outside the window. Everything was perfect.
