When I Grow Up, I Want to be a Ghost Buster
Tearing Up My Heart
"It's tearing up my heart when I'm with you!" Hope screamed/sang. Not that that works, or anything. You can't scream and sing at the same time. It just doesn't DO.
Cammi, Hope, Cammi's mom, and John were on the way back, and Cammi was currently attempting to tell her mom and step-dad about the ghost sighting.
But someone who definitely wasn't Cammi's best friend was making it a little impossible.
"Hope," Cammi got out through gritted teeth. "I'm trying to tell my parents about the ghost we saw, and you're singing Backstreet Boys or whatever!"
"Gasp!" Hope literally exclaimed. "You did NOT just call N Sync the Backstreet Boys." She shook her head and started flapping her hands around. "They're completely different!"
"No, they're really not," Cammi argued. "They're both about selling out."
Since Hope couldn't really argue with that point, she stated instead "Well, fine. I won't sing either. I'll give you something else to listen to."
Then she broke out with "Sooooo TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT, WHAT YOU REALLY REALLY WANT!"
Cammi stuffed one of her socks into Hope's mouth. "The point," she stated while Hope was spitting out the sock "of me telling you to stop singing was for you to stop singing."
Hope was outraged. "You stuck your grody, ickified sock in my mouth because I sang? You didn't even say you wanted me to stop singing! The words, 'Stop singing, Hope' never actually came out of your mouth! You're such a penis!"
Cammi's mom kind of turned her head at that, but John turned his head to give her the look that said "Just forget about it". So she did.
Cammi, however, was subdued by that comment. "Omigosh," she hissed under her breath, "I can't believe you just said penis in front of my mother."
"Whatever. It's not like she hasn't heard it before," Hope logically pointed out.
Cammi was just extremely grossed out. "Seriously. Just don't do that. I...no. Just don't."
So the rest of the car ride home was pretty silent, except for Hope's random verses of songs that she sang.
"She's got a LIP RING AND FIVE COLORS IN HER HAIR! Not into fashion, but I LOVE THE CLOTHES SHE WEARS!" At that point, Cammi felt she had to join. Hello. It's McFly. GET SOME!
"I'd like to bone her cuz she puts me in the mood!" They both sang. Once again, they got a strange look from her mother, but ignored it.
By the time they finished the song, they were at their destination; their almost ex-home.
Hope went home to eat and shower, but then she was coming over for a sleepover. They were going to have them every other night since Cammi was leaving in a month. And anyways, it was summer. They were alternating houses, though.
So as Cammi ate dinner with her own family, she was forced to consider whether the ghost was real, or merely wishful thinking. It wasn't as if she had proof, or not. She was the only one who had seen it; even Hope hadn't heard it or anything. Not even when the ghost asked for help.
About halfway through dinner - and Cammi's ponderings - the doorbell rang. Cammi, thinking it was Hope, early, ran to go get it. She flung open the door, and was disappointed in one way, and extremely gratified in another way.
"Hey, Jonah," she greeted, smiling hugely.
Jonah Henderson was one of her sister's many friends from college. Jonah often visited the house, and Cammi always found his visits marvelous because he was surprisingly, amazingly, undeniably attractive. Picture D'Wayne "The Rock' Johnson's body with Rupert Grint's face and Hugh Jackman's sexy voice, and that was Jonah. He was mouth watering. And, best thing, he was an older man. By two or three years, but still. Older. And definitely delicious.
She was almost positive Jonah didn't know she would love to jump his bones, but really, she didn't care if he knew at all.
He smiled at her. "Hey, Cam. I was wondering if-"
Cammi interrupted him mid-sentence. "Yes, Tori's home. She's still eating dinner, though."
"That's not actually what I came for," he stated. He stuck his hands in his front jean pockets and kind of shrugged a little. "I was wondering if you wanted to go to this musical with me. I remember you saying you would love to see Grease on stage, and you know how my mom does the booking of all those Broadway shows? Well, she got free tickets, and she gave me two, and I was just thinking that you'd like to-"
Cammi was about two seconds away from saying yes.
And right at that moment, Hope walked over and saw that Jonah was there. Cammi saw her, and Hope started making kissy-smoochy faces and wrapping her arms around herself and pretending to make out with air.
Cammi really did not want Jonah to turn around and see Hope, so she waited until he looked down at his shoes to start shaking her head and making slashing motions with her hands.
Unfortunately, Jonah looked up in between and took that as her answer. "Alright, well, I was just asking..."
"No, Jonah, I would love to! I was just..uh..."
Then Hope walked up. "She was just making sure I understood not to step on the roses in the garden," she stated convincingly, smiling at Jonah.
Jonah looked relieved. "Oh, alright. Well, I'll call with details, okay, Cammi?"
Cammi nodded her agreement, waited for Jonah to walk away, and looked at Hope. "Now I remember why I keep you!"

The song this chapter was named after JUST came on my iPod, and I'm all, HELLZ YEAH!And then I just wanted to throw in some Spice Girls. Because they're all awesome. Especially Mel B, who ALMOST won Dancing With the Stars in the fifth season. I was rooting for you, Mel!
