Two Hearts to Make a Maniac

Chapter Thirteen

I sat uncomfortably next to Jack, looking out the window of the van as Joker played with the radio up front with Skeeter. Even through his mask I could tell he was staring at me. I've been beating myself up about what I've done with him. I'd been patiently waiting to do what ever the hell we're about to do for at least ten minutes. Sadly, we'd dropped off Harley so I had no one to talk to.

"Okay, time to go crash a party." The Joker instructed kicking open his door and jumping out. I quickly followed, eager to get away from the suffocating van. "Now, we're after two people: Harvey Dent and if we can't get him, Rachel Dawes. So take this," He took a gun out and shoved it into my hands, " and shoot people and all that jazz. Just not the targets. So be a good girl, Ebby." He taunted, using my new name.

We all headed towards the manner, not a person to stop us. Though when we got to the door, we did have to use a little force.

Rapping on the door a few times, the Joker stood idly waiting for it to open. A young woman opened it, shocked immediately by the Joker. "I hope you don't mind," He began squinting his face and grinning, "I brought some friends." My cue.

Coming from behind him, swiftly, I grabbed the girl covering her mouth and twisting her neck. Neck broken, she dropped to the ground and we all stepped inside. The party was on the top floor and we easily found the elevator. As we waited for the elevator to hit the top floor I couldn't help but fidget. Several times I adjusted my mask and kept rolling my shoulder blades trying to shake off the building tension.

Finally, the elevator door dinged. Oh, party time has begun.

Walking out, the Joker set off his gun making the guests of Wayne Manor give out startled screams. "Good Evening ladies and gentlemen." Skeeter, Jack, and I filed out of the elevator aiming our guns at the guests ready to shoot. Skeeter and Jack began to mess with a waiter as I followed the Joker closely. He walked over to an ordure table and grabbed a kabob eating half of it before tossing it back on the table. "We're tonight's entertainment!"

I would have followed him, if I had not seen someone. Miss Canklelegs. I couldn't help but smile as I strutted towards her. Fear rolled off her in waves. "Why hello." I sang sticking the gun under her chin. "Oh, come on Canklelegs, don't look at me like that." It suddenly clicked in her head.

"Rebe-"

BOOM

Several women screamed as Canklelegs dropped to the ground. Damn woman almost said my name, had to blow her brains out. Her fault, not mine.

"I only have on question!" Joker announced prancing around. "Where is Harvey Dent?" The room kept quiet, no one willing to talk. Rolling his eyes, he stepped closer to the people pointing his gun at them. He carelessly grabbed a woman's wine glass, pouring out the contents before taking a sip. Dropping it to the ground he patted another woman's face roughly. "'Ya know where Harvey is?" She stayed silent earning her a whack in the head. He moved to a man. "You know where Harvey is?" He asked grabbing his chin. "I need to talk to him about something, just something little." Again silence. "No." He grunted rolling his eyes again.

Striding towards a waiter he picked up an ordure eating it. "You know, I'll settle for his loved ones."

"Were not intimidated by thugs." The elderly man grunted.

The Joker squinted and made a strange movement almost saying 'Oh really?'. "You know you remind me of my father." He said wagging his finger at the man. Grabbing his neck he pulled him closer, laying a knife at his lips. "I hated my father." He growled.

"That's enough." A woman called out. Rachel Dawes.

Joker let go of the man and advanced towards her as I watched carefully from the side lines. "Why hello beautiful." When he said this, it made me glad that Harley was not here. "You must be Harvey's squeeze." He taunted pointing his knife towards her. "Hm?" I could see the woman visibly freeze up as he came closer. "And you are beautiful." Even that made me cringe. He circled her closely making her jump away slightly. "Oh, you look nervous." He pointed out plainly. "Is it the scars?" He asked pointing to them. "You wanna know how I got 'em?" He seemed to like to explain that. He nodded his head not giving her a change to answer. "Come here." He grunted grabbing for her face. She squirmed away from him but he grabbed her neck. "Hey, look at me." He whispered menacingly. "So I had a wife, beautiful, like you. Who tells me I worry too much" He began. "Who tells me I oughta smile more! Who gambles and gets in deep with the sharks." Rachel tries to struggle free but he keeps a firm grip on her. "Hey! So one day they carve her face. We've got no money for surgeries. She can't take it. I just wanna see her smile again!" He explains grinning maliciously. "I just want her to know! I don't CARE about the scars. So, I stick a razor in my mouth and do this," He points to his scars. "to myself. And 'ya know what? She can't stand the sight of me!" Snarling, he shakes her slightly. "She leaves. Now I see the funny side. Now I'm always smiling!" He grins lifting his knife upwards.

Seeing the opportune moment, she punches him in the gut, glaring daggers.

"Who-haha heh!" the Joker giggled holding his stomach. "A little fight in 'ya! I like that." He licks his lips, smacking them.

"Then your gonna love me." A deep raspy voice interrupts. THE Batman pushes him away roughly.

"Boss!" Skeeter, Jack, and I yell simultaneously. Jack jumps on Batman but is easily shaken off. Grabbing Skeeter, Joker flings him at the Batman. Soon both the Joker and Skeeter are kicking him as I stand by gun ready. The Batman throws Skeeter away and punches Joker to the ground. Without a second thought I leap for him putting him in head lock as the Joker scrambles up grabbing Rachel. Something sharp comes in contact with my side and let out a literal roar of pain. I'm thrown to the ground and all I can do is scrunch up and hold my side.

"Put down the gun." Batman growls.

"Sure!" He giggles. "You just take off that mask and show us all who you really are!" He instructs walking towards a window. "Hm?" Pointing the gun at the window he breaks it with one shot then dangles Rachel over the side.

"Let her go." The Batman snarls his voice low and dangerous.

"Very poor choice of words!" Joker cackles letting go of Rachel letting her fall. Batman immediately runs after her diving out the window. I writher on the floor, expecting to be left for dead until I'm scooped up in someone's arms. Hissing, I grabbed onto the person's shirt trying to block out the pain digging into my side. "Thank you for having us ladies and gentlemen! It was a blast!" The Joker squealed as he ran into the elevator, me bouncing in his arms. I vaguely remember going into the van and driving back home. I think Skeeter and Jack were in the front laughing. But I know for sure I was still be cradled by the Joker, him rocking back and forth repeating 'Damn it' over and over again.
