Emily
Chapter Two
The next day, Emily left straight for her house after class ended. She knew that she shouldn’t have gone to class, because Master Porf said not to, but she couldn’t just leave without saying bye to her friends that she may never see again. This was a very smart choice on Emily’s part, for earlier that day, someone had blown up her house. Now Emily didn’t know this yet, so when she left, she expected to see her green house with baby blue shudders standing between two evergreen trees, with her mom in the kitchen baking cookies, and her little brother on her lap. Instead, she found bits and pieces of her house all over the place, the two trees that were by it were uprooted, and her mother and brother nowhere to be seen.
“Wh-What happened?” Emily stammered, barely able to move.
“Emily,” came a soft, soothing voice from behind her, “I’m sorry to say, but someone wanted to kill you, so they blew up your house. They thought that you would listen to me and stay home, I’m really, truly, sorry.” Emily, now realizing that it was Master Porf, not being able to control herself, yelled back at her.
“No! You aren’t sorry! You wanted me to stay home today! You almost got me killed!” Emily shouted, holding back tears. Master Porf just let Emily shout, but it seemed like she was trying to tell Emily something. “And my mother! She’s always home! So now I don’t have one of those either!”
“Emily,” Master Porf said calmly. “Emily, listen, I did not know that this was going to happen. I wanted you to stay home today because I thought that whoever did this would attack the school, not your house.”
Emily, looking rather distraught, finally realized what Master Porf was saying. “So, you wanted me to stay home ‘cause you thought that the people who did this would attack the school?” Emily asked, crying, and Master Porf merely nodded. “So then what, I would be safe at home, and my friends get blown up instead? I’d rather die, then know that their deaths were my fault.” Emily shouted strongly.
“Emily, I had no idea, I am very sorry.”
“Well, now you do have an idea. And did my brother at least make it out ok?” Emily asked, hopeful. Master Porf paused for a moment, but then shook her head. Emily started to cry even more.
“Why did this happen? Why now? Why when I’m just about to leave, does this have to happen?” Emily bawled.
“Come with me. You still have some things that were saved, so you will grab those, and then leave. Okay?” Master Porf said, knowingly, waiting for Emily’s response. Emily nodded her head slowly. “Good, this way then.”
Master Porf led them both to her office. “Sit down, it will help. Okay, here are your things, I can’t tell you exactly what just happened, or why, or where you’re going, but I can tell you that you are going to a place that is inherited with Popels.” Emily looked surprised at this. “P-Popels? Why Popels?” She stammered.
“As you know, I can’t tell you everything, because I don’t even know some things. But time will answer all your questions and explain everything later, I hope.” Emily tried to interrupt, but Master Porf seemed as if to not notice this and continued talking again. “Now when you get there, you won’t be able to use magic around then, because, as you should know, they are non-magic beings, so they will have never seen it before, and will be quite surprised if you do.” Master Porf paused, making sure that Emily was listening. Emily quickly nodded her head. “Good. And remember, not many people get this chance, it is very special, so feel proud.”
“But why couldn’t it have been Bob, or Joe? Why me?”
“No one knows why they’re picked, but still it happens.”
“But, what am I supposed to DO there, exactly?”
“Only time will tell that, I mean, I didn’t know what I was supposed to do first, but now look, I’m head master!”
“So, you’ll think that I’ll become master?” Emily asked casually.
“Oh, I highly doubt that, everyone gets a different job. I bet that your job will be just as important though. Now grab your things, and be off.” Master Porf gave a little push towards a door. Emily tried to talk real fast, but Master Porf would allow no more.
So off she went. Emily is now enrolled in the Princess Academy in Lowrod. Still having no idea why she was put there, but she will soon enough…
