He'll Be the Death of Me, I Swear
Danica-Marie Hockings is living it up in a town that she just doesn't belong in. She has her two best friends: Michelle-Ann Burgess, who is the only gothic chick at their school, and Jacob-Michael Blair, the emo mosh-pit guy. She loves them to tears, but hardly sees much of Michelle thanks to her scary boyfriend and Jacob makes it quite clear that he hates being on the friend level. To make things even better for her, her mother, which is the only family she has left other than her rich snobbish aunt--is dying of stage four cancer and the doctors know she only has three to six months left. Her dad died of alcohol poisoning years ago and her little sister was still-born, so why does God want to take away the only one she has left?
The new guy, Landyn-James Marshall, is trouble in a pretty package. At least Jacob seems to think so anyway. Landyn tells Danica that he can make it so her mom's cancer will not be the death of her. When Danica and Landyn start hanging out Jacob starts acting out, which is presumably out of jealously. She doesn't understand just what they have against each other, but she knows there is something deeper than just envy going on here. Still, she never expected the truth to be so unworldly. The feud certainly has reason behind it--as well as a good hundreds of years!
Love triangles can never turn out good, but Danica likes Landyn, too, so what will happen to poor Jacob? Everyone knows he won't go down without a fight. Even if the battle seems to be lost for him, he still refuses to stop waging the war though that is what Danica wants the most.
How can you make peace with two people when those two people's ancestors couldn't even make that peace?
