Where's the Heart?

I'm in No Mood

It was finally nine o' clock, the end of my shift. I cannot tell you how happy I was to be away from those snobs and dillweeds! God I could call them so much more but I just wanted to get out of there as quick as possible. The place could suck the life right out of you and if you weren't careful it would!

"Heading out, Jack," I told my assistant.

"Alright. We'll see you on Monday, Jade."

He was a good kid. Kind of a klutz and boy did I learn that the hard way. That suit was ruined now: coffee was a bad stain. And why did I care any way? I had plenty of extra cash thanks to the parents finally dying already.

But man, when I had taken the damn job I thought I would be in charge of myself, but they freaking ripped me off. I had to suck up to everyone in the building! And I hated every last one of them.

I stepped outside with my portfolio and just my luck, it was raining. Damn, I know what that meant. It would be flooding and my favorite cafe would be road blocked.

I ran a hand through my hair, sending water cascading to the floor. I hated rain almost as much as I hated the sun. Regardless, I had to get home and find somewhere else to spend a Friday night. I mean, an 18 year old can still party right?

I pulled out of the parking lot. How I had gotten suckered into that job I'll never know. But I was waiting for the day I screamed "I quit!" right in all of their grimy little faces.

But unfortunately, rain also meant detours and detours meant long lines and long lines meant I would be in the car for awhile. But I knew what I could do. I pulled out my phone and searched for all the cafes in town. There had to be more than my usual one and I was in no mood to not calm down and unwind.

Bingo. Thank the Lord I found one. I turned left at the intersection and it was all smooth sailing. No one was going that way and that was a blessing I have to say and I don't get too many of those.

I pulled into the small lot behind the place and let out a breath of relief, fixing my hair in the rear view mirror. I grabbed out an umbrella and locked my Mustang. I'd already had one stolen and I was not going through that again!

After I had stashed anything of actual value and locked the car, I headed through the alley between my car and the shop before I made it into the cafe. It was really nice. Naturally, I got a coffee. I would be working late tonight and I was going to need caffeine.

"Not decaf," I told the guy who had asked me what I wanted. If he brought me a decaf he was going to feel some hurt in the morning. Besides, I didn't have time to beat a ton of guys' heads in. As much as I liked how strangely relaxing it was I couldn't stay long.

But there were soooo many hot guys...No. I had to go. That was final. But it only got harder as I caught the gaze of so many guys. It was like freaking heaven. Especially considering where I just came from. I shook my head furiously, taking a sip of the thankfully caffeinated drink . I smiled. Someone got to live tonight! When I walked outside I noticed that it had stopped raining. The moon was up and I couldn't help but feel at ease. Plus, that cafe was still with me and I felt as free as bird. But I knew I couldn't fly.

I took another sip and headed to my car. I placed my coffee on the roof, patting myself down as I searched for my keys. Oh not freaking again!

"These yours?" I looked up and saw one of the guys I had seen in the cafe. He was hot, I'd give him that much. But kind of creepy too. That smile didn't help his cause of seeming innocent.

"Yeah! Thanks, guy. I saw you in the cafe," I told him, unlocking the door and opening it for myself to get it. Hell, I could chat a bit. "I thought I had lost my keys and that couldn't happen again!" I closed my door and took a sip again, leaning against the car. He was a cool enough guy.

"You have bad luck," he assumed. I nodded.

"If I believed in it, I would call it that," I laughed.

"Hmm well I on the other hand think you have horrible luck. Atrocious really. Life-threateningly so."

"Yeah? And why is that, guy?" I asked him, tired of this game already. Forget him being cool. He reminded me of a sniveling little rich kid.

"It's Edwin." He extended a hand.

"Jade." I took it and he kissed my hand.

"You taste pretty good. Floral soap? Lavender?"

"Wow, are you a sniffer or something? Yeah, it smells good I think. Now why do I have bad luck?"

"I caught sight of you in the dinner. And I just couldn't let you leave without stopping by to chat. I just couldn't."

"Well, we chatted. I'm going to be off." I opened the door but was torn from it and my back smashed against the wall. I shrieked from pain. I wasn't in the mood for this! I punched him in the jaw and smiled as his head whipped to the side. He was laughing! What the hell?

"I don't think you'll be going anywhere, Jade, was it? You see, I caught sight of you, but that wasn't what...captivated me." He was in my personal space and I didn't like it.

"Oh what was it then? My personality? Listen, if you're trying to get a date, it's not working."

"Date? Ha, I hold no love interest with you. I merely caught your scent is all and I must say it's simply marvelous. Too hard to let go. That would be a waste and I don't like wasting blood that could be spilled, or bottled up and spilled over time. I do like that idea,"

"Know what idea I like?"

"I'll humor you. What?"

I spit in his face. "Now let me the hell go!"

The wind was knocked out of me. Had he HIT me? Oh he was going down.

"You little brat! I'm gonna kick your--" I never got to finish my sentence. I looked down at the guy and his teeth were IN my neck. That's not healthy, right?
