A Student/Teacher Relationship

Drama's Open Arms

Still My POV:

All physics class I daydreamed of Mr. Armstrong, wait sorry, Billie Joe. Well they were mostly repeats of him, but now there's the possibility that something can come of them. I continued to be starry eyed for the rest of the day, even when I accidentally bumped into some guy that called me a 'dyke.' I normally would have gave him shit back, but I'm just too happy. I don't think anything can bring me down from this...

Oops I spoke too soon. Nick ran me down at my locker afterschool. "Hi," I said, zippering my backpack. I bet he's going to ask where I was at lunch.

"Where were you at lunch?" Did I call it, or what?

"Um I had to do something."

"Like what? For the whole period? And what about yesterday?" Must he pry?

"Ok Nick you got me," I huffed closing my locker. "I wasn't at lunch today, because I was having mad, hot, crazy, unprotected sex with Mr. Guzan in hopes to raise my physics grade." His mouth dropped open with wide eyes.

"And why wasn't I invited?"

"It was a private affair," I nonchalantly shrugged.

"Did you at least video tape it?"

"I'm sorry, but no," I apologized draping my arm on his shoulder.

"See you never think about my happiness!" He sulked stamping his foot on the ground like a 3 year-old.

"Ok give it up. How was your day?"

"Fine...where were you though?"

"Why is this such a big deal? I wasn't there alright?"

"Hey no need to bite my head off. I was just curious," he grumbled looking away.

"Damn it Nick now I feel bad! Are you ok?"

"Yeah, I'm just screwin' with ya," he bursted into laughter.

"You douchebag!" I yelled, pushing him into a row of lockers and him continuing laughing at my flimsy attempt to hurt him. I do actually feel bad though. It's not that bad if I lie to my family, that's inevitable. But lying to my friend? I chose to trust and be honest with my friends. I realize now that if I was going to have anything more than a student / teacher relationship with Billie Joe, I was going to have to lie a lot.

"Beeecky? Are ya in there?" I snapped back into focus to see Nick waving his hands in front of my face.

"What?" I pushed his hands away.

"I gotta go, my dad's here." We were already outside. That was quick.

"Ya know one of us has got to learn how to drive."

"I know....Good bye my love!" Nick opened his arms for a hug.

"Oh farewell my darling!" And I accepted the hug. We are way too much into dramatics.

"I'll call you later."

"Ok!" I yelled behind him as he jogged to his dad's suv. I plopped down on a bench and waited for my ride to come.

An hour later, no one had still come to get me and the school was practically deserted. I don't have a cell phone. Well technically Rachel and I share one, but she always has it so I forfeited ownership. I knew Rachel was home already. She usually gets a ride from one of her friends and assumes that I can always find a way home. Today my new step dad is supposed to pick me up, But I guess he forgot and remembered a Nascar race was on. Good thing I got my chucks on cuz I'm walking!

I stepped out on the road in front of my school to get to the street that took me straight home. Suddenly some asshole in a black BMW drives up and nearly hits me.

"Hey jerk watch the hell where you're going!" I shouted, slamming my fists down on his hood. I took a step away, cursing the guy under my breath.

"Rebecca?" I heard behind me. I turned back to Billie Joe getting out of the car, mortified.

"Oh my god I am so sorry!" I apologized turning red.

"No I'm sorry. I almost hit you!"

"But you didn't. I'm fine."

"Are you sure, because I can-"

"Seriously, I'm alright." I raised a hand to slow him down.

"I'm such a retard." His hand swung back in exasperation, hanging on to the back of his neck. "Wait, why are you still here?" His hand dropped.

"I don't have a ride and I can't drive."

"Do you want a ride?" He thumbed to his car.

"Nah I'll walk. I'm sure I can make it with the heavy traffic and lack of sidewalks." I squinted, looking at the street filled with speeding cars trying to make a mental route through without almost getting run over the least times.

"Get in," Billie laughed.

"Fine," I sighed and rolled my eyes. On the inside though, I'm screaming (out of excitement). I walked toward the passenger side, but before I got to the handle, Billie had already ran around to open the door for me. "Thanks."

"Welcome," He ran back around and got into the car. "So where do you live?"

"You can take that road and I'll tell you where to turn. I'm not that good at street names."

For the first half of the drive, we talked about normal things. Our day, hobbies, interests, etc. Simple things, but then I couldn't help but make the conversation more complicated.

"Are things going to be weird? With all of this going on?" I asked as the car slowed to a red light. It was silent for a couple moments. I was getting nervous. Is he going to kick me out of the car? His face scrunched up and he started to shake his head.

"I don't think so. Why are you having second thoughts?"

"I'm not having any second thoughts about you, but are you having second thoughts about me?" Wow never thought I would ever say that to a teacher.

"I'm not following."

"Well for one I'm not the most attractive girl at school. Almost every girl in class much less seen you is in love with you and what about Jamie? She was practically tripping over herself and making excuses just to be alone with you. Why not her?"

"Slow down," he cut in. "First of all, I like the way you look. Second, do you not think I get that in my other classes? I can see straight through girls like her! Do you know what I see? Empty space! But you.... I don't know. So no, I'm not doubting you. Last, where is all this coming from?" I was taken a back by his statement.

"I'm sorry this doesn't normally happen to me so I'm bound to be a little skeptical."

"That's fine," Billie Joe leaned over and met me with a kiss, putting my worries to rest. We must have gotten really into it, because all of these horns sounded behind us and people drove past flipping us off. We both looked up to see the light had turned green and Billie stepped hard on the gas.

Ten minutes later the black BMW slowed into my driveway.

"So this is where you live?" Billie leaned over the steering wheel, looking up the 3 stories.

"Yep, home sweet home."

"Pretty big."

"Don't be fooled. The first floor here is the garage and the garage is where I'll be entering."

"Why don't you use the front door?"

"My parents don't trust me enough to give me a key. They think it's harder for me to sneak in and out with the garage door being so loud."

"Makes sense...But are you able to sneak out?"

"Yeah," I giggled, unbuckling myself. "My parents are going to be home soon so I better head inside."

"Alright, can I call you later?"

"Sure," I looked around for a pen and some paper.

"Here," He handed me a pen. "Just write it on my hand." I jotted it down and opened the car door.

"Bye Billie," I grabbed my book bag and stuck my leg outside the car.

"Rebecca?" Billie Joe caught my hand.

"You can call me Becky."

"Ok 'Becky' I'll see you tomorrow," He smiled and kissed me on the cheek.

"Thanks for the ride." I stepped out of the car.

"Oh yeah Becky?" I bent down to look back inside.

"Yeah?"

"Just to forewarn you, I'm going to give you a ride home tomorrow and for the rest of the year, k?"

"No you don't. I can walk or something."

"I want to."

"Ummm thanks. Bye," I closed the door and waved. I walked up and punched in the code. As the garage door lifted up, I turned back towards the car and Billie and I smiled at each other one last time and I went inside my house.

I walked up the stairs from the garage to the living room with Rachel and her friend, Arielle babbling to each other. They immediately stopped when they saw me coming. I thought I would sneak past them and up to my room.

"So who was that?" Rachel called behind me. I stopped and faced them.

"No one, just a friend," I shrugged.

"He didn't look like 'just a friend'!" Arielle piped in.

"I don't think that's any of your business," and I continued towards the stairs.

"Arielle I can't believe Becky has a boyfriend! With all the black, I always thought she was a lesbian!" Rachel cackled and was soon joined my Arielle. I bit my lip and squeezed my hand into a fist. I'm not going to waste my time on them even though nothing would give me more pleasure than to throw both of them out of a second story window.

Hours later, the house phone rang, but I didn't bother to go see who it was. I was let down enough in the past from rarely being called. I heard Rachel call for me from the stairs.

"Coming!" I called getting up from my bed. "Yeah?" I left my room and leaned over the bannister, looking down at her.

"It's for you," a swell of exitement came to me as I took the phone from her.

"Hello?"

"Hey, whatcha doin'?" Nick's voice came from the receiver.

"Nothing," I returned to my room, my excitement bubbling down. I was hoping it was Billie Joe. "What are you up to?"

"Same as you. I was wondering if you want to come over, watch some movies or something."

"Uh...sure, but since it's a weeknight the odds of my parents driving me anywhere is slim to done. So if I do go, I'm going to need a ride."

"No problem. I'll be by in 20."

"See you then," I hung up and fixed myself up. Even if Nick is only a friend, I don't ever want to look bad more so than I always do. I jogged down stairs and waited for Nick to get here. It's Thursday so my parents went to bed an hour or so ago.

"Where are you going?" Rachel asked. She's on the computer. MySpace must be a drug or something...

"Just over to Nick's for awhile."

"Awwww sneaking out to go see your boyfriend, but wait wouldn't you be cheating on that guy in the car?" It's sad. The whole time she's been talking to the monitor.

"I'm a lesbian, remember?" No rebuttle from her.

"Nick doesn't drive. How are you getting there?"

"Good question. His parents I assume." There was knocking at the door. "He's here. See ya later."

I opened the door to Nick all wet.

"Hey you ready?"

"Yeah." I said shutting the door behind me. "I didn't even know it was raining. So who'd you get to drive us?"

"Oh I found someone." We walked off my porch to see a red blazer, Ben's car. I stopped dead in my tracks.

"Nick, No."

"Come on! He insisted! He was the only one that would drive us!"

"Fine, but I am sitting in the back," I reached for the door and got in.

"Fine!" Nick doing the same. I wasn't going to say anything to Ben. I remember everything...

Ben is Nick's neighbor, my sister's best guy friend, and my ex boyfriend. Seriously, I can't make this part up. For 6 monthes we dated. I broke up with him first, because his parents hated me. That was the worst day of my life. My friend literally had to pick me up from the practice room floor because I was crying so much. The same day we got back together and broke up AGAIN the next day. He hated me for that a lot. During the summer, we tried again and failed. Then just last year, my sophomore year, I realized that pushing all the bullshit aside that I really did still care about him. We tried to talk things over. He even came over to my house a couple times to talk, saying he still loved me. Guess what? I believed him. He then turned around and got himself a girlfriend all at the same time. Ben and Jen. Isn't that precious? She's even more obsessed with him than he was about me. To sum up, I thought he was the only person that truly loved me, but he just wanted sex and Jen gave that to him on their second date. Yep, a lot of bad blood. I guess this is Nick's attempt to get things back to how they used to be when we all used to hang out and have fun.

The first few minutes of driving were fairly quiet. I stared out the window, Nick messed around with the radio, and Ben just drove. Nick turned back to face me.

"So Becky," he grinned. "How did you find a way home today? Did you have to walk again?"

"Nope." A smile spread across my face when I realized this would be the perfect opportunity to make Ben jealous. "Actually I got a ride home from a friend."

"Who? No one I know drives except this dumbass," He pointed to Ben; Ben flipping him off in return.

"Um I don't think you know him."

"A 'him'?" Nick questioned, eyebrows raised. "What's his name?" What are the odds of them knowing Billie Joe, but since it was a unique name.

"Billie."

"Is he a boyfriend or something?" After Nick said that, I glanced at Ben. His head shifted more in our direction.

"I think so..." A warm feeling came over me, because of the notion of Billie Joe being MY boyfriend. "We kiss and stuff, but it's not like he officially asked me out or anything." Ben's grip on the wheel tightened and he accelerated. Ha, ha mission accomplished. Hey, I'm allowed little tastes of bittersweet revenge. Aren't I?

"I see...when did all of this happen?"

"Yesterday."

"Is that why you haven't been to lunch?....Now I get it! That's why your lipstick was all AAH!"

"Yep!" We both started laugh.

"Nick was telling me about how hard it is for you to get a ride home and since I'm already driving him, I could give you a ride tomorrow." Ben said.

".....Thanks, but Billie already offered, well, for the rest of the year."

"Do you honestly think it will last that long?" I know what he's getting at. Time to change the subject.

"I love this song!" I sprung between the 2 front seats and turned up the radio loud. I have no idea what song this is, but I danced and attempted to lipsync as convincingly I could. I think I pulled it off, because they left the conversation at that for the rest of the drive. I couldn't help but wonder during my little fits of karaoke, how long will it last?
