SHH! There's a Killer in the House

9

I had to use the bathroom in the master bedroom. There was no way I was going to go back into my room, not willingly anyway. Walking through my parents' room was so out of place. This was the first time since all this stuff happened that it was untainted by everything that has happened. In here they pictures of my father and Gloria smiled, unknowing of the killer in the house. The picture of me from the previous school year hung on the wall was next to pictures of Gloria's children and their families. I was the last one left in the house and I didn't know if I would last much longer.

Without wanting to stay any longer, I hurried into the bathroom. The smell of the dried out roses filled me. My step-mother hated almost every other flower but roses. She said they are the symbols of the world; friendship, love, lost, everything. I couldn't disagree with her, in my mind, they are the flower that symbolizes everything.

Once I got the shower started, I striped off all of my clothes and stepped in. It was so warm and soothing, I didn't want to leave it. The tense muscles in my back slowly loosen up. It was so relaxing just to let the water wash over me. It seemed like it was forever ago that I got to do this. But it was only yesterday I did this, wasn't it? I didn't remember anymore. I only wanted to stay here for the rest of my life.

Landon banged on the door. "What's taking so long?! Hurry up!" He yelled. Quickly I cleaned myself and turned off the water, sadly. Right when I wrapped myself in a big, fluffy towel, Landon opened the door. I almost dropped the towel in surprise. "Sit," he pointed to the toilet. "Stay right there while I shower, got it, if I hear the door open, you're dead. Don't get up at all." All I could do is nod. "Good."

He started the water back up and striped. I was looking down the whole time, not wanting to see any of him. After a few seconds, I figured he was in and I looked up. Boy, I wrong, he was trying to fix the water temperature and was standing out in the open. My jaw fell open. GOOD LORD! He huffed in frustration. "Heather!" He whined, looking back at me. "How do you work this?"

My mouth was still hanging open. "Ah," I regain composure. "Left is cold, right is hot, start it in the middle and go from there."

"Where is the middle?! Come here!" He begged. I looked at him like he was crazy. "Oh come on, haven't you ever seen a naked man before?" I shook my head no. "God! Get over here anyway!"

I stood up and walked towards him. He lean away as I fix the water, he had it hot. I couldn't help but noticed how close we were. It was making me nervous. I moved out of the way for him to see if the water was fine. "Go sit back down." I did, not looking back.

It seemed like forever that he was in there but it was only ten minutes at most. When he finally got out, He was dripping wet with a towel hanging lowly around his waist. He looked like a model right of a high end magazine. He walked to the sink, ignoring my staring, and started to put on the clothes he brought in. Then he left, closing the door behind him.

Not taking my eyes off the door, I got dressed as quick as I could. The floor was so slick I kept slipping and almost falling as I pulled up my pants. Once everything was on and my hoodie in hand, I walked out of the bathroom. Landon was pulling on his boots. "Ready?"

"I just need to get my shoes, and then I will be," I waited until he gestured for me to go.

"Wear some good shoes we'll-" the doorbell cut him off. His head snapped up and he was glaring at me. "Did you call someone? Who the fuck is that?" He got up and in a few strides he was standing in front of me, his hand grabbed my throat.

Slowly he began to cut off my air. "I don't know who it is! I didn't call anyone." He held on a few more seconds before turning me and forced me to walk to the front door. I was pressed up against him as he looked out the peephole.

"There's some blonde out there with a lip piercing," he described her to me.

"It's must be Chase. Let me talk to her, I can get her to leave." He moved behind the door and slowly turned the knock.

"Hey, Heat, ready to go? We still have to pick up Mike and Stacy and oh, I talked Vince to come! Won't that be great, you won't believe how much of a crush he has on you! And-" She looked at me. "Why aren't you ready to go? We've been planning to go to this concert all summer. Are you sick?"

"Sorry, Chase. I can't come. Something came up," I lied. "I need to, uh, get back."

She tried to walk in but Landon's foot was in the way of the door. "Heather? What is going on? Is there someone in there?"

"No, only me. But I can't come tonight. Next time, I promise."

She kept eying me. "Ok, bye Heather," we both lean in and we kissed each other cheeks.

"Bye love, see you!" I called as she walked back to her car.

"Love you!" She called back before getting into the car.

Landon closed the door and my heart dropped. Was that the last time I would see her? I wish I knew. He rolled his eyes at our little display and started walking back to the kitchen. I looked back at the door before hanging my head and following him. Not like I would get far away. I was never the athlete in school, I always fell when I'd run. And with being scared, I don't think I would make it too far without hurting myself before he could hurt me.

He was looking for something once again in the drawers. "What are you looking for?" I asked as he closed one drawer and opened another. I sat down on one of the chairs by the counter.

"The clip of money your father leaves in here. Where is it?" He looked up at me.

I sighed. "I took that shopping with me before you 'came to fix the phones.'" I joked. He glared at me with the humor. Or because I spent all that money. Who really knows. "But he keeps some emergency money in his top left desk drawer in the office," I informed him. "You need a key though," I added in.

"Where is a key?" He asked, giving up the search in the kitchen.

"I'll show you," I got up and he followed me into my father's office.
