The Freedom of a Killer Is Gone

Chapter Nineteen

The Joker and Ebby stood on the roof, waiting patiently for their target to come. All day that had been following Dick Grayson, waiting for the opportune moment. It was at least ten o' clock and Dick was still hanging out at some bar. He had been moping the whole time. It would probably make him easier to kill.

Finally, Dick came out of the bar. The Joker and Ebby climbed down the fire escape of the building and followed him. He wasn't staggering, so it was obvious he wasn't drunk.

As they followed the young man, Ebby couldn't help but feel they weren't the only one following Dick.

"Joker," Ebby hissed tugging on his arm, "there's someone following us, or Dick." She said softly.

The Joker looked back, his face paint had almost all wiped off and the green was extremely faded in his hair. "Well then we better hurry up."

Ebby nodded, and followed him quickly. They were only a few feet behind Dick when the they cocked their guns. Both guns made an audible click. Dick froze and slowly turned around. For a moment he looked at the blankly then saw who was holding one of the guns.

"E-Ebby?" He choked out utterly bewildered. "What are you doing?" He asked.

"I'm sorry Dick, but I've got to do this for the sake of my family." Ebby whispered her dark red hair falling over her eyes.

Before she could even touch the trigger something threw her across the small alley they had wandered into. She let out a groan and sank to the ground. The Joker was at her side in an instant, worry carved into his features.

"You need to stay out of this," He ordered stroking her cheek, "I don't want you or the baby getting hurt." He whispered.

"Baby?"

Ebby lowered her head and sighed. She wasn't too happy that her pregnancy was becoming like some sort of gossip. Looking up through her hair, she was surprised to see Batman standing by Dick.

"What game are you playing Joker?" Batman demanded his voice still raspy as ever.

"This isn't my game Batsy." The Joker said casually, his voice wasn't high pitched but calm and deep.

Doubt flickered across Batman's face, or what face you could see. "Look, I'll make this easy, show us where the Penguin and his gang are hiding and we can make you a good deal."

"Hm…how about, no?" He snorted, he lifted up his gun and aimed it at Dick. "I'll just do what I have to do and be on my way."

He pulled the trigger and let out a bullet, perfectly aimed at Dick's head. But it missed.

Dick twisted his body making the bullet whiz past his head. He couldn't help but look at Ebby. She was still slumped against the brick wall, her eyes down cast and her arms wrapped around her stomach. He could hardly believe this was the woman he had seen just a few days ago. She had been so charming and sweet, it pained him to realize who she really was.

"Ebby, come on. It's obvious you don't want to do this! You don't have to do it, just come with me." Dick pleaded glancing from the Joker, who as glaring at him, to Ebby.

"No." Ebby snapped coldly. "I've got a family, Dick, and I'm not going to leave them. I have to protect them, and to do so, you've got to die." She grunted at him her eyes narrowed.

Before Dick could react, Ebby jumped from the ground and at him. She picked up her gun and aimed it at him but was once again knocked aside. Ebby draped her arms around her aching head. As she opened her eyes she heard gun shots and saw Batman and Dick running away, unharmed.

"Come back here!" She screamed. "Get back here you coward!" She screamed again, hysteria leaking into her voice. Ebby placed her head onto the ground and slammed her fist on it. "Damn it."

Blah, nothing to really say. Though, just to foreworn everyone, the ending will becoming up pretty quick. And I will not bemaking a third story in the series, I mean, it's kinda pointless in my opinion and it still wont be as good as the first. So yeah, after this one, I'll be sticking to my other Joker series till it's finished.
