Wanderers of the Night

The Beginning

*Aria Patel*
~Flashback~
The air flowed by me, swiftly, silently; pelting me with rain as I ran. Ran for my food, for my life. Just ran to where ever my feet decided to take me, and where ever my prey had in mind. I ran alone, even if I did have someone waiting for me back at the orphanage where we lived, a friend that would do anything for me. I could sense that my mind was being looked upon, and as I began to push them out, I could feel the familiar grasp of another's mind holding tight to my own to find my whereabouts, and I knew it was only Darian. I allowed him to see into my mind, and before I knew it, he was running next to me, prepared to help with my large prey. I was tracking a rather large, and rather mean grizzly bear, one that had been terrorizing the town of London. We were getting close to it, I could sense it, and I knew Darian could as well, as he began to grow crazy with hunger. I ran faster, wanting to kill the beast and have the first bite. Darian saw me speed up and did the same, knowing it would be a race and first prize was the bear and the first bite. I looked through my mind, searching for the bears angry and confused mind, searching for its destination. I could see only trees and then an open clearing. In the middle of the clearing, hiding in the tall grass, I could see the very things that made werewolves feel two things. One of those things being mad with hunger. Vampires. They were crouched low to the ground, hoping the bear wouldn't see them, so they could easily attack it and have an easy meal, but we saw them, and it would be more than just an easy meal for them. This bear was mine, and I was going to kill it, no matter what those filthy vampires and Darian thought. This was my kill. I motioned to Darian, and he saw them as well, and his hunger grew more intense, and before I realized it, he was gone. He ran straight at them, preparing for a fight. They didn't expect him, and he caught them off guard, but once they realized it, they were fighting back and fighting hard. I stopped, looking from my bear, to Darian. It was a hard decision, but if the bear got away, I would have to settle for rats. I charged towards Darian and the vampires, and attacked the one who was sneaking up behind Darian and the other vampire. When the vampire and I collided we went spiraling through the air until we hit the ground with a 'thud', and I landed on top of him, pinning him to the ground. The rain let up and the sun shone faintly through a few clouds, the rays hitting the skin of the vampires by the smallest angle. Their skin lit up, sparkling brilliantly with just that little bit of sun. It looked extravagant and distracting, taking my mind off of the vampire bellow me, for a second as my mind wandered and my eyes gazed at the brilliant shining of the skin. One second was just enough for the vampire to flip me over and pin me to the ground, it's warm sticky breath blowing in my face, as it leaned close to me, smirking. I could see in his eyes that he was very hungry. His eyes were the darkest of blacks. I knew, that no matter how much they hated werewolves, the wouldn't hesitate to suck our blood if given the chance and they were hungry enough.
He smelled my face, his smirk grew wider."You know, I've never tried werewolf before, but for a nasty beast, you smell better than any other werewolf I've been around. Maybe you could be different from the rest. I don't know, but I think I'll have to see if you taste as good as you smell." He said, smirking wide at me, as his canines extracted and slid from his mouth, gleaming as bright as his skin in the sun.*If you know what's good for, you, you will not bite me.* I thought, projecting it into his mind so then he knew what I had wanted to tell him."Hmm..you're right, why don't you morph back so I can see what I'll get for turning you." He smirked evilly, enjoying me struggling beneath him. I growled, low and vicious, making sure he knew I meant business."No? All right, suit yourself. I like surprises anyways." He said, before lowering himself down some more, preparing to taste my blood. I closed my eyes, and gathered all strength in my body, and forced it all into my front legs, before kicking them out with such force the vampire went soaring away from me and into a tree. I looked over to where Darian was fighting his, and saw that he was getting pretty beaten up by his and that he needed my help. He had of course chosen the strongest of the two. I ran over to their fight, and just as I was about to grab the vampire's throat with my jaws, my vampire pounced on me, causing us to fly through the air once more, but this time we landed a few feet away from each other and began to square off, preparing to close in and attack. I let part of my mind wander to Darian, and saw that his energy was slowly disappearing.*Darian, move your fight towards me, and I'll help you. I can take them both.* I thought, as I was in his mind, so he could hear me. I could hear his weakened howl, but I heard him running to me, with his vampire hot on his heels. When he ran past me and towards mine, I pounced on her back and took down his vampire, allowing my claws to sink into her back. As I was about to kill her, I heard Darian yelp in pain, and heard a 'thud' on the ground once more. I could see the vampire holding him down and digging his sharp claws into his back."Let my mate go, and I shall let him go alive. Kill her, and he dies." The vampire said, and I looked from the vampire below me, to Darian's weakened form*Off him first, vampire, or she dies.* I thought, projecting to his mind once more. He looked to his mate, and she was shaking her head, obviously not liking the fact that we were compromising."Kill him and let me die, just get my revenge! Don't make deals with were-!" She said, before she stopped, and blood flowed from her mouth, and she died, her body turning to dust as she did. The vampire on Darian stared at the dust in shock, wide-eyed and angry. His focus was on the dust, and as fast as I could I tackled him to the ground, allowing Darian to run free, limping in pain but still moving fast nonetheless. The vampire and I tangled in another fight, but this time, I injured his arm. When we each had thrown the other a few feet away, I could see him cradling his arm, in pain, and I knew he was done fighting. I wasn't."All right, werewolf. You've won for now, but mark my words, I will have my mate's revenge and don't think I wont. I'll find you both and kill you both, for the revenge of her. Watch yourself, werewolf." He hissed, his look evil and menacing towards me, before he ran off in the direction of town. I knew he was going to find his dinner elsewhere in a human, but as I was about to go after him, I heard Darian in pain once more and then his painful transformation. All things flooded from my mind, as I ran for him, only a few yards behind the covering of the trees, and once I reached him, I knew this would be hard to explain to Madame Ulrich, the Head of the orphanage. He had long gashes down his arms, and huge bloody holes in his back where good sized pieces of flesh had been taken. I scooped him up on my back and ran. I ran as fast as I could, forcing my pained legs to their limit, racing to the orphanage to get help. Just before the trees broke behind the orphanage, I morphed and fell, beginning to partially drag him, calling for help."Help! Madame Ulrich! Somebody! There's been an attack!" I screamed, at the top of my lungs, and the lights in the orphanage flickered on, and Madame Ulrich came running out in nothing but a robe over her pajamas. Some of the neighbors came out to investigate as well."Oh, my lord! What happened? Quickly, get him in the house! I'll call for the doctor immediately!" She said, going into a terrible panic. The neighbors all ran to their houses, each one reaching for their phones and calling the doctor, all giving him the same address, hoping he would come faster. Everyone in our little neighborhood had loved Darian, he was always helpful and very handsome.
Tonight, was no different than anything else. With him being near his deathbed, all of the neighbors loved him more, each one coming over and bringing us more blankets, buckets of hot water, rags and bandages. They all knew, though, how much he meant to me. He was one of the only people I knew who knew and understood the real me, and I didn't want him to die, and leave me on my own. Tears were pouring from my eyes, as I held his hand, squeezing it tightly to let him know I was here. The doctor arrived in less than five minutes, and when he arrived and took one look at Darian, he was shocked. He hadn't seen injuries like this on any living patient of his. Doctor Morise was a humble every day doctor who knew about every kind of medical thing there was, whether it was real or mythological. He knew what these markings were from. He had to know, since he was a werewolf himself. We've had Doctor Morise since we had been found by him and brought to the orphanage by his wife, Alice. Madame Ulrich had taken us in without a second thought as long as Doctor Morise would become our doctor, and she would not have to pay any fees for us, because she had enough orphans as it was and not enough money for all of the medical bills. Doctor Morise and Alice promised Madame Ulrich that they would pay for everything as long as we could live here, and she gladly took us in, and Doctor Morise had basically provided for us our entire lives. I looked to him, now, fear and worry visible in my eyes. Doctor Morise sent everyone but me out, needing me to explain to him what happened, so he could know exactly how to cure him. I retold our story, and as I did, he was fixing up Darian's wounds, making sure not to give him any more pain than he already had. Darian held my hand the entire time, squeezing it when he was in pain, and I squeezed back reassuringly. I whispered soft and kind things to him, to calm him down and make him feel better. Things like, "It's ok, Darian, you'll be ok. I know you will be and once you are we can finish off that welch for doing this to you." I had tears pouring down my face even more, as Doctor Morise gave me a look that said, 'Don't get his hopes up.' With this, I held myself as close to Darian as I could without hurting him more, and he held me as well. I may not have needed anyone when I was hunting, but Darian was basically my life. He had gone through life with me and this terrible curse. He knew everything about me, and I knew everything about him. I did need him in real life when we were as humans, and would need someone else to keep us company. While hunting in morphed form, you can communicate from far distances, as humans it is worthless. I needed him in every way possible. I needed a companion and a friend to spend eternity with. I need him and only him. If he were to die right now, I would run from here and never come back, never turn around and look back, never even look at anyone again. I was pulled from my thoughts, just as I heard him gasp in pain as Doctor Morise placed some kind of liquid medicine on a bandage and quickly wrapped it around Darian's abdomen where the wounds were. He did the same for all of Darian's wounds, and when he was done, Darian had a white stomach and some white arms with one white leg. He looked a bit funny, but I didn't laugh. I wouldn't ever do that, unless he laughed first, and I dont think he would ever laugh over this. Darian stood, his legs wobbly at first, but regaining their composure after a second, before he began to walk out the back door once more."Darian! Where are you going?" I said, calling after him and following behind him, Doctor Morise following as well."I have some unfinished business." He growled, and he sounded angry with no more pain."Darian, you can not leave this house for an hour, so your body can have time to heal. You may not feel pain, but if you do anything stupid before you're healed, you could kill yourself." Doctor Morise said, stopping Darian and causing him to turn around and face him."You know what? I don't care if I die right now! There's a ruthless vampire out there, on a blood craving and he wont stop until he gets it, and someone has to stop him!" He snarled, and Doctor Morise seemed to step back, not wanting to take the chance that Darian could get into an anger fit and morph and attack him. I stepped in front of Doctor Morise, and took Darian's hands, forcing him to look at me."Darian, please, just stay for the hour until you're healed and then I'll go with you-." I said, and he yanked his hands away, snarling angrily at me."No! I am going to take care of this myself, now!" He said, and just as Doctor Morise had feared, he had gotten into an anger fit and morphed on me. He pinned me to the ground, his teeth bared in my face and drool coming from his mouth in anger, not hunger."Go ahead, Darian, rip me to shreds, but I warn you, you will regret ever doing this to me." I said, and there was remorse in my voice, and I knew he could hear it, and it calmed him down instantly. I looked away from his bared teeth and closed my eyes, more tears started to leak from my eyes. He morphed back, his face full of caring as he hugged me close, sitting on the ground next to me, whispering he was sorry.
Doctor Morise saw that he wasn't leaving, so he said farewell and went back to his house. I just sat crying in Darian's arms for what seemed like hours before Madame Ulrich came out looking for us."Aria, Darian, come on inside you two. It's time you both got some sleep. You've had a rough night." She said, standing in the doorway, waiting for the two of us to stand and come in. Darian picked me up, bridal style and carried me inside, much to the displeasure of Madame Ulrich, but he didn't care. I just let him hold me and carry me to my room. He stayed with me the entire night, not having to worry about any little kids going and telling on us, since I had a room all to myself. He climbed in bed beside me and held me close to him, until my breathing slowed and I fell asleep. I dreamed peaceful dreams that night, and everyone of them were of Darian. I awoke the next morning to the calm and steady breaths of Darian, his head above mine, with my head in the crook of his neck and his arms around my waist holding me close to him. I relaxed once more, closing my eyes and listening to the even rhythm of his beating heart. I could hear it speed up, and when I opened my eyes, I saw him looking down at me smiling."Good morning, Aria. Did you sleep well?" He said, kissing my forehead, and I kissed his chin."I did. How about you, are your wounds healed?" I said, and he shrugged and removed the covers, revealing his bandaged chest and his plaid shorts. He slowly released me, and began to undo the bandages on his arms, the minor wounds. I peered over his shoulder, and saw no marks on his arms and smiled."My arms are good, so my legs probably are too. Now, if you could be so kind as to undo the back of my abdomen, I would be great full." He said, and I nodded, before beginning to undo his bandage around his chest, placing my hands through his arms and bringing my body close to his as I unraveled it around his whole body. I could feel him shiver at my touch, and it made me giggle. He looked around at me and blew a kiss to me, which I received with a smile. Sure, Darian wasn't my mate as a werewolf, but as humans, we were known to be dating. We couldn't ever be mates for each other as werewolves, it just wasn't in our nature to be the other's mate. Our mates were elsewhere, and we vowed that once we found them, we would go our separate ways but still keep in touch. As I finished unraveling the bandage, I saw that there was nothing left of the injury, except for five small scars, just faintly visible on his tanned skin. I gently rubbed my hand over the scars, feeling the indents they made on his back.*They'll be gone in about a week.* I thought, removing my hand from his back and standing from my bed and going over to my dresser and pulling one of his shirts he gave me out. I handed it to him and then sat back on my bed, and fell backwards and immediately relaxed my body. He put the shirt on and looked back at me, smirking."What?" I asked, looking up at him and propping myself up on my elbows."Nothing." He said, smirking still and snickering at something."What?" I asked, a bit more forcefully, as I gave him a nudge."Nothing. I swear." He said, raising his hands in defense still snickering."Come on! Tell me!" I whined, before covering my mouth because it sounded like a whine a puppy would make. I looked at him and a smile appeared on my face and his as well. We burst out laughing, and just sat there trying to re catch our breath."Do you really want to know?" He asked, smirking as he caught his breath first."Yes." I whined, only this time it was more controlled and didn't come out like a puppy's would."All right." He said, before stopping and sitting there, as if waiting for something.
I sat there waiting patiently, sitting there for a good five minutes before I broke the silence."Come on, Darian, stop being an arrogant brat and tell me!" I said, giving him another good shove in the back."Oh, you wanted me to tell you now? Oh, I'm sorry, I assumed you meant later. You should be more specific next time." He said, and he had a devilish grin plastered all over his face."You wise ass!" I said, punching his shoulder hard but playfully. He began to rub it, feigning pain."Ouch, that hurt. Now I'm not going to tell you what I got you yesterday before we met up." He said, 'hmph'ing at the end, turning his face away from me and shoving his nose in the air acting like a snobbish brat."You got me something? Well let me see it, come on!" I said, getting really excited and beginning to jump around all over the place. He smirked at me and shook his head, his arms crossed over his chest."Nope." I stopped jumping around and sat there and looked at him like he was an idiot. "You stupid brat! Come on, tell me!" I said, nudging him gently, before whining at the end. He looked at me from the corner of his eye, not turning his head to look at me again, but kept his nose in the air and made the 'Hmp' noise again. "You know what? Be a brat some more. See if I ever save your ass from being killed by a vampire again, why don't you." I said, and I did the same thing he did, sitting back to back with him, with my nose in the air and issuing a snobby 'hmp,' before staring at the ceiling, counting how long it would be before he told me. *1.2..3...4....5.....-* I thought, counting in my head before he said, "All right. I cant take this madness!" He said, throwing his hands in the air and turning around to see me looking away from him. I smirked, thinking, *Right on schedule* I turned around to face him and smiled sweetly."Yes, and what is it you have to tell me?" I said, being coy and smirking the entire time. He grinned at me, before placing his hands behind his back, extracting something from his back pockets."Well, I have here some tickets to go and see some concert, and I believe the concert is a My Chemical Romance concert-." He said, before I screamed in delight, "Oh my god! No way!" I snatched the tickets from him and began examining them my smile getting wider and wider as I read them over. The concert was tonight, at six."Oh, and I also have gotten us these." He said, pulling something else from his back pocket. I snatched at them greedily as well, looking them over. I screamed even louder this time."Backstage passes too? Oh my god, Darian you are the greatest! Where did you get them? Did Doc hook you up with them?" I said, squealing in delight as I placed mine around my neck and stroking it like it was the greatest thing in the world."You could say I was hooked up with them, but not by Doc. I've got a friend who has connections with Gerard Way, first cousin I think. So, when I asked him if he could get us in, he said he could do much better than get us in, and he got us backstage passes and it only cost me about one hundred pounds." He said, and I hugged him tight."Oh my god, you have no idea how long I've been wanting to go to this concert and even better I get to meet THE Gerard Way! Oh my, I think I've just died and went to heaven." I said, fanning myself with an invisible fan and leaning back on Darian's shoulder. He was smirking.
