Somehwere Between Hell and Zombies
surprise!
"Surprise!" comes the voices of what seems to be everyone I know. Which, in the
small town of Montgomery Alabama is just about the entire town. Tears of so many
emotions roll down my face as Derek gives me a hug then kisses me so sweetly. It was all
just a set up.
When I think about that night I wish that i would have taken the time to talk to and to thank
everyone who was there. If only I could have been a little more considerate. Now they're all
dead. All but Carmine. You see, after the shock of the party, I only managed to stay up for a
small amount of time. Not nearly enough to talk To my great grandparents who flew all the
way from Minnesota to be here.
The next day I simply tried planning what I was going to do over fall break. Derek
continued to call me, but I refused to talk to him because I was really upset with him about
the day before. I finally broke down and called him around 8:00 p.m. and decided to go and
spend the night at his house. After all, I was eighteen and his parents were out of town for
the weekend, so, what could go wrong?
That night as we lay sleeping power plants around the world began leaking.
No one in Montgomery knew about it for there were no nearby plants. However, a small
handful of people began to Get infected. The air smelled of the chemical Mercapto ethanol,
but no one knew why. Through out the next day more and more people began changing,
Derek and I laid in our ecstasy, unaware of the events, for his room was poorly ventilated
I am not sure any more if being isolated was a good thing or not.
As we left his house around noon, the town seemed dead. the smell had faded
into nothing so we were still oblivious to the potential danger we were in.
