An Unordinary Adventure of An Ordinary Girl

Part 35

Your POV:

By the time you had reached the entrance to the castle, Kyo had already taken control of himself and a polite smile was adorning his features as he was talking to Hyuga. Your existence, however, was totally ignored, but you were rather glad about it. It was better to be ignored than hated in plain sight.

Meanwhile, Kyo took Hyuga and you to Hyuga’s quarters. You remembered it was one of the most beautiful guest rooms in Kyo’s castle. It had a huge master bedroom and a cozy living room attached to it. It was the best room in Kyo’s castle, reserved for special guests. Somehow, that made you feel down. Isn’t it weird how much you remember of this house?.. It was as if every room and corridor held memories.

“Your… personal assistant,” Kyo paused as his eyes drifted to you, “will have a room prepared for her in the servants’ quarters.”

You couldn’t help but shiver at his stare and you wondered how long you’ll survive in the servants’ quarters. Kyo won’t even have to do anything. The servants will shred you to pieces themselves.

“I’m afraid that won’t do,” Hyuga noted coldly and you glanced at him surprised. “My personal assistant is to assist me at any time and I need her close. She is to sleep in the room next to mine.”

Kyo kept quiet for a short moment as his eyes hardened, bearing a slight tint of red.

“I apologize, but I can not offer such arrangements at the moment as there are no bedrooms-”

“Then make some now,” Hyuga cut him off coldly and then his lips bent into a smirk. “Or is it that the great Lord Kyo can’t even do some simple household magic?”

You watched Kyo grit his teeth and then he smiled pleasantly as he bowed slightly, “Of course. It will be ready for use in an hour.”

Then, he excused himself, letting Hyuga take his short rest before the dinner, and left the room, leaving you alone. You heaved a sigh of relief and stole a glance at Hyuga, who was still wearing an arrogant smirk on his face. Then, he averted his gaze to you and the smirk was replaced by a simple soft smile.

“See, my dear Aya? It’s not that bad, is it?” he noted as he moved across the room to take a look out of the window. It faced the inner gardens and gave quite a beautiful view.

You decided it was better not to answer and simply bent to pick up Hyuga’s suitcase. It was better to take his clothes out and hang them properly in the closet for his use.

“I’ll make preparations for your stay, master,” you replied calmly as you opened the suit and pulled out one of Hyuga’s suits. It was a rather elegant one and you wondered if Hyuga will want to wear it for the dinner.

“You don’t have to do that,” Hyuga said as he walked closer to you. “I’m sure Lord Kyo can spare a few servants for us.”

“No,” you shook your head. “I can take care of it. It’s no big deal and I like it.”

“You do?” he cocked his brow and you nodded.

You did like doing such small and mundane things. It helped you keep a clear head on your shoulders.

“Hmm,” he mused. “How long have you worked here?”

“Here?” you froze as your fingers gripped the fabric of the clothes.

“In Lord Kyo’s castle.”

“Oh, um…” you stuttered. “Not long.”

“And that would be?”

“Uh… a few months or so,” you smiled sheepishly as you walked towards the closet to hang the clothes.

“A few months,” Hyuga echoed, watching you with his bluish eyes.

Your conversation was heading the wrong way and so you felt overly relieved to hear the knock on the doors. A servant came in and asked you to get ready for the dinner. Well, that was sooner than you expected and you glanced at Hyuga.

He seemed to be discontent, but nodded his head. And so, you two followed the servant down to the dining room. Funny how you even recognized her. Her name was Jacelyn and she was a mother of two daughters. You smiled sheepishly to yourself as you thought it was unbelievably awkward how you could still remember the tiniest details about the people who were prepared to rip your head off at any given chance.

You wondered if the real Yuki will be down for dinner as well. If so, it will be one hell of a dinner. You dreaded that moment, truthfully. The only thing that still kept you moving and smiling was the fact that you might see Leiru here. Perhaps, you even get a chance to talk to him. And then, then… What then?

You furrowed your brows in thought, wondering if Leiru could get you out finally. He did say he’ll come to take you home on Yuki’s birthday, which is in mere two weeks. Does that mean you have only a few weeks before you go home? For some reason, you looked up at Hyuga who was walking slightly ahead of you, following the servant. His broad back had given you so much comfort and help these days. Now that you thought of it, you had no idea what would have happened, if Hyuga hadn’t taken you in.

At that moment, the servant stopped, bowed to Hyuga and opened the doors. You recognized the room immediately. The dining room for special occasions. It was rarely used when you were living at Kyo’s castle. He didn’t like the long table and the candelabra. He did like the oak panels on the walls, though. Said that the wood had always had a way to calm him down.

You bit your lip slightly. Why did you remember these things? Such small and irrelevant details. You stepped over the threshold after Hyuga and your eyes drifted around the room in hopes to see a friendly face.

There was none. Kyo didn’t even as much as glance at you. He merely bowed to Hyuga and handed him a glass of wine.

“Once again, I welcome you to my castle,” Kyo said politely and reached out his arm to someone beside him. “Please, meet my fiancé Yuki.”

You bit your lip even harder as you watched Yuki take Kyo’s hand and make a low curtsy. To your surprise, she was wearing a glittering dress which seemed to be a hybrid of a skirt and rather wanton lingerie. You couldn’t help but stare at her cleavage when she bowed and a blush came to your cheeks. You would never ever wear something like that. Never.

It didn’t seem to faze Hyuga by the very least though and he bowed politely, reaching out his hand.

“A pleasure to meet you, miss Yuki.”

She put her hand into his and Hyuga brought it to his lips, planting a kiss on Yuki’s knuckles.

You couldn’t help but look away as the three kept exchanging pleasantries.

“We will be getting married in two weeks, on Yuki’s birthday,” Kyo said and you shut your eyes at the words. “It is a pity you can not participate.”

“Indeed, it is,” Hyuga replied as he sipped his wine. “I am afraid there are some business matters that I can not avoid, no matter how tempting the party sounds.”

“Oh, it can’t be helped,” Yuki chimed in. “You must be very busy being the Demon King and all.”

“Yes,” Hyuga replied curtly as he stepped away and towards a painting on the wall, feigning his interest in it. “What a wonderful piece of art.”

You knew he was faking it because Hyuga rarely showed any interest in art at all. That was something he called a waste of his time. Yet, for some reason, as soon as he left your side, you felt empty and unguarded.

Kyo followed Hyuga towards the painting ready to tell its entire history and you stole a glance at Yuki. All the while she was wearing a polite smile, but now that the men were away the smile disappeared and she gave you a full glare.

Then, she smirked as she stepped towards you. You did your best at standing your ground and not running away.

“I see you found a new suitor,” she hissed so quietly you barely heard her. “I should have killed you when I had the chance.”

Her voice sent shivers down your spine and you finally took a step backwards. Yuki merely grinned as she added, “Don’t worry, that can still be fixed.”

You gulped and there was nothing more you wanted to do but run out of there. But then…

‘Aya,’ you flinched at the familiar voice in your head. It was… Leiru? ‘Aya, find an excuse to leave the room and come to the inner gardens.’

‘Leiru!’ You thought back to him happily as you bit your cheek not to show any glee on your face.

It was all the reason you needed to leave and so you stepped back away from Yuki.

“I-I’m sorry,” you said and as soon as you opened your mouth Hyuga was already beside you. You glanced up at him as you brought your hand to your head. “I’m sorry, master Hyuga, my head feels so dizzy. I’m just…not used to travelling like this, haha.”

“Aya?..” Hyuga cocked his brow questioningly, but you were already retreating backwards to the doors.

“I’ll just take a rest back in my room, master,” you blabbed. “I’ll find my way back, I’m sorry.”

And before anyone could stop you, you slipped out and ran across the corridor, heading towards the exit to the inner gardens.

Leiru was there and waiting for you! The only person in this world you could truly call a friend.

Hyuga’s POV:

I narrowed my eyes as Aya rushed out of the door almost hastily and gritted my teeth in slight anger. That girl… she always seemed to find a way to maker her escape. Nevertheless, I turned to Yuki and put on my neutral expression as I glanced at her.

The girl shivered slightly and Kyo put his arms around her shoulders. “You ok, Yuki?”

“I just…” she looked down. “I just said I forgave her and that I was glad she found a new place to work, but she just ran off…”

“Argh,” Kyo grumbled. “I told you no to talk to her. Forget it, Yuki.”

He planted a kiss on the girl’s cheek and I did my best at holding in a scoff that was rising up my throat. What a fool. All the respect I ever had for him had just gone with the wind.

I glanced at Yuki, my eyes going up and down, and smiled slightly. Perhaps, the poor guy had too little experience with women. I for once could tell a gold digger when I saw one.

I let out a small sigh as I raised the glass of wine to my lips. This is going to be one long dinner. At the very least, there will be Aya waiting for me when I’m done here.
