He's A Heartbreaker

Chapter 6
He's A Heartbreaker

Over the next couple of weeks things had been rather smoothly for everyone. Zack, their bassist was settling in and getting to know his new band mates, he thought they were pretty unique guys. He also was catching up with his former crush, Samantha. Although they'd only been separated for a year, it seemed as though it had been a lifetime. Amanda was doing better, she was Rians best friend apart from the guys. It appeared that she had gotten very sick, possibly mono. Doctors never could come to a decision on what she had, so she had missed a good two and a half weeks of school. Now, as bad as that sounds on missing school it really wasn't, Rian went over to her house everyday to drop off her school work, and keep her in line with all the news going on at school. Jack and Cayden were becoming better friends and finding out things about each other that they never knew. He was finally comfortable to actually speak with her, she didn't make him as nervous anymore. As for her, she couldn't get over how silly he was. He was like a little kid, they went to the park and he'd beg for her to push him on the swings, and she'd always say, "as long as you go on the seesaw with me." He made her happy, and made her feel like a little kid all over again, which was a relief on her behalf. As for Alex, things weren't so smooth, they were actually really rocky. Jewelz and him were seriously drifting apart, and he was not up for it at all.

"I honestly don't like her." said Jack.

"What the hell...why not? She's the most amazing girl I've met in my life." said Alex pissed off.

"There's just something about her. She's too smart, you two don't match up." explained Jack.

"She doesn't hold your hand at school. She doesn't like to be seen kissing you in public. You two rarely hang out anymore." listed Rian.

"We're just in a tough patch right now, all couples go through that." retorted Alex. The two boys shook their heads.

"I didn't even know you had a girlfriend. I've never heard word of one." said Zack, it was the weekend and just the guys were hanging out.

"Honestly, you two don't like her? Why haven't you told me..." barked Alex.

"We didn't want you to get upset, you always talked about how great she was." said Rian. Jack nodded.

"I thought we told each other everything...and this is the one thing that's most importat to me. And you've been pretending to like her, haven't you." said Alex catching on.

"Well...yes." replied Jack. Alex was absurd with the two of them.

"She's so clingy when she's around, she's like Janice on the show Friends." said Rian.

"Minus the obnoxious laugh, but she doesn't realize that we don't really like when she's with all of us." finished Jack.

"You know what, I don't need this. Julianne and I are fine, it's just a rough patch that's all."

Even as the words rolled off of Alex's tongue, he knew this wasn't going to end well. He and her had been drifting away the past month. It was March, and that meant they'd been together for a little over eight months now. Maybe all good things can't last, but Alex wasn't ready to lose her, not now...or ever for that matter.

"I bought Cay a big shiny pink balloon today!" blurted out Jack.

"That's great." sighed Alex.

"I also saw a show about chimps on the animal planet. Cay says that I act like a chimp." chuckled Jack.

"And you look like one too." replied Rian. Zack began to laugh with them, but quickly turned over to Alex who had his hands over his face.

"If you're questioning her, then maybe you know what needs to be done." said Zack concerned. Alex hated to admit that Zack was right.

Down the street, and a few blocks away sat four girls: Samantha, Ali, Amanda and Amy. All of them were exceptionally close friends the boys, but Samantha really hadn't hung out with them very much, and rarely hung out with these girls, well besides Ali. Ali was Samanthas best friend here.

"You guys have no idea how glad I am to see anywhere beside the inside of my bedroom." said Amanda munching on some Cheezits.

"Well we're all glad to have you back!" chimed Amy.

"So, Sam how do you know that Zack boy?" asked Ali.

"Ohhh yeah! How do you know him? He's really cute." giggled Amy. Amanda agreed.

"Um, we use to go to the same school." explained Samantha.

"Well, were you friendly with each other?" asked Ali.

"They'd have had to be in middle school Ali, I highly doubt it." interrupted Amanda.

"Oh no, no no no. We weren't anything like that. But we were going to maybe date...but then I moved here. I never heard from him after that day, that is until now." sighed Samantha.

"You love him." said Amy.

"It's not even that. That's just weird. I just....I don't know." said Samantha scrunching up her nose.

"Love." repeated Amy. All the girls laughed. Inside however, Samantha couldn't shake that word off of her chest. So what if they were freshman, what if love was too strong of a word, deep down the feeling gutted her, and she knew she had strong feelings for him.

"Whatever." said Samantha rolling her eyes.

"How often do you get to see him now that he's around?" questioned Amanda.

"Quite a lot, I'm seeing him tonight when they're done with practice." she smiled.

"So he likes you back?" asked Amy. Samantha shrugged hoping that he did.

"Well, maybe you should talk to him about it." began Amanda.

"No no no no. I don't think so." she blushed. Love, that's what they would call it.

"We'll see...we're all going over there to. Rian invited us." said Amanda.

You know how people always say nothing great happens on Sundays...we'll all those people are correct. The whole day the boys did nothing but sit around in their boxers with pillows under their heads piled up on the couch. That was it, well and they ate junk food, but that's a given, right? The day was winding down to mid afternoon, it was around five. Jack had just went to the restroom and as he was walking back he noticed something out of the window.

"Hey Alex! I think you have a new neighbor." he cheered.

"Really, that's nice." he said getting up with Rian and Zack who clamored to the window to get a glimpse of who it could possibly be.

"It's a girl!" exclaimed Zack.

"Which means nothing, because I'm with Jewelz, come on you guys...the girls will be here soon...lets-" started Alex. To late, the doorbell had just rang. It wasn't like Alex cared if they saw him in his boxers so he went to answer the door.

"Wow...Alex, hmmm. Seriously, every time I'm over you are wearing nothing but boxers...I'm starting to think you don’t own any clothes." laughed Amanda.

"You know, she's right...rarely are you in clothes when you're home." chimed Ali.

"Why bother...I have a right to walk around in boxers in the privacy of my own house. Besides I'm sure all girls walk around in their bras and panties in their houses too." he said.

"I think that's just in your dreams, sorry Alex." chuckled Amy.

"Damn, you could have said yes. I can imagine right." he said.

"That Gaskarth you can...imagine all you want." said the three girls in unison. Samantha was off in her own world. Zack was at the opposite side of the room, and they both caught each other staring, yet neither could tear their eyes apart from each other.

"DON'T LOOK AT ME!" shouted Jack covering up himself with a pillow and running around the room. Everyone, including Samantha and Zack stared at him and laughed continuously. "It's not a laughing game. Girls shouldn't see me like this! I'm practically naky!!" blushed Jack.

"Don't worry Jack...As long as they stay on, we'll be fine." said Ali.

So, the boys stayed in their boxers, seeing as it didn't really mattered, and everyone made their way into the garage. It was a rather hot day, surprisingly, so they kept the garage door open to allow the sun to come in. They'd been working on the same song Alex had been writing, and it was coming along really well. The girls all sat around pointing to each of the boys, and were humming along, and trying to learn the songs. And all bobbed and swayed their heads to the beat of the song.

"Hi..." said a strange voice from the entrance of the garage. The boys had just stopped playing, and were taken aback when they saw a girl, whom they didn't know standing feet away from them.

"Uh, hello..." said Alex furrowing his eyebrows.

"I'm Lena...I just moved in down the street, and I couldn't help but overhear you playing music. I just thought that I would introduce myself. You the one who lives here?" said the girl. She was about mid-height and had this gorgeous complexion, and silky dark brown hair fell smoothly down just past her shoulders. Alex nodded his head, he was blown away by her appearance.

"Uh oh...I know that look." whispered Jack to Rian. Amanda overheard, and leaned over to Amy and Ali, and they all agreed. Samantha sat back and watched as Alex began to make his next move.

"Nice turtles..." giggled Lena looking down at his boxers.

"Oh...hah, yeah..um thanks." he stuttered. Alex stutter? "I'm Alex." This was going to be interesting.

"So you have a band..." she said walking past, rubbing against his shoulder. He nodded. "That's cool." she said walking over to meet the others, everyone introduced themselves. "Mind if I watch?" she smiled cheeky.

"Not at all...we were just about to play it one more time." he lied.

"We were?" asked Rian. Alex looked at him and glared.

"Yes..we are." he said getting into position. They played their song, and Lena leaned against the back wall, with her left leg propped up against it. She was staring at Alex...full on. He messed up a note, and shook it off, then he looked at her, she was staring. He couldn't help but stare. He messed up again, this time on the lyrics. Lena twirled her hair and giggled. Alex mess up...that just wasn't right? When the song was over Lena ran up to Alex and began to talk.

"That was really amazing. You guys sound so good." she winked at him.

"We're getting there...we need to fix some mistakes." coughed Rian looking at Alex.

"Well I should get home, see you tomorrow at school. I enrolled last week!" she said.

"Bye." waved Alex leaning to his side to watch as she left. She looked back at him and winked once more, then was out of vision. UH OH.

"Could you WANT her anymore?" said everyone at once.

"Shut up..." mumbled Alex.

"So I guess we know how you feel about Julianne." retorted Zack.

Later on, everyone was leaving, and Zack decided to walk Samantha home, she lived a few streets away from where Alex's house was, and he could kill time until him dad arrived to get him.

"So listen...I really miss you." he began.

"I miss you so much." she breathed.

"Jenna misses you like crazy..." he sighed.

"JENNA! I lost contact with her. She and I were-" she started.

"Best friends, I know. She's been asking about you like crazy." he laughed.

"So you and her still talk?" she asked.

"Talk. Eat. Sleep. We do it all. We're best friends." he continued.

"By sleep you mean in opposite rooms right?" she laughed.

"Sometimes, she only comes to sleep over when she's really in a breakdown." he explained.

"Oh...well this is me..." said Samantha as they approached her house. They both stood right in front of it biting their lower lips. Before Samantha could say anything he gave her a quick kiss, and she instantly sighed. She could feel herself turning red as they separated.

"I'll see ya." he whispered softly, as he continued his goodbye. She waved, and was at loss for words. She ran into the house quickly to continue smiling the whole night.

The next morning was once again a grueling Monday. The hallways were filled to it's capacity, and everyone was talking with their friends about how their weekend was. Everyone that is, but Alex. He had his arms extended out forward to the lockers where he was sucking face with...

"ALEX!!!!!" screeched a girl...Jewelz. Shit.

"Oh shit!" exclaimed Alex. Jewelz ran down the hall. Everyone was frozen in their place with all eyes on him, and the new girl, Lena. "I'll be back!" he said to her, but it was Jewelz name that he shouted down the hallway. He found her panting and breathing heavy near the girls restroom. "Jewelz..." he breathed.

"I can't believe you! she shouted.

"Me...you haven't even been acting like a girlfriend." he yelled.

"Well, I'm not the one sucking on some other persons lips now am I." she bellowed.

"I can't take this anymore..." sighed Alex.

"Take what?" she asked.

"Us...this." he said.

"I don't understand, why is happening to us?" she cried out on the verge of tears escaping from her eyes. He didn't respond, he couldn't explain it...he let fear get the best of him. And right then and there, he left her helplessly sulking down to the bed of the lockers.

The rest of the day, all anyone could talk about was that fight. Alex was found roaming the halls with Lena the rest of the day. And off in her own place was a girl who was determined to become Alex Gaskarths next girlfriend. And don't look now, but they're headed towards each other right now. Only, he doesn't know she exists, but she was determined to make herself known to him. No matter what it took. She'd have to break him away from the girl who was dangling onto his arm, the one he was kissing. Shocking. That's what Monday was.
