You're Seldom Known and Barely Missed

The First Show

"Alright guys, this is gonna be our last song. Then you'll have to put up with The Academy Isn't..." I said into the microphone, and I heard some laughs, and a few huffs. "C'mon. You guys know I'm kiddin' around. This one's called Hijinx." I pulled the mic off the stand and nodded along with the music as V started to play.

"I just found out
It’s been too long now
The word is out
Time before didn’t they take us hook and punker?
Their "jive alive" lines
They were funk
They were hijinx, hijinx, hijinx tonight
We all know better but we just might

"Pullin’ this off it’s gonna take some
Big time schemin’
A fast tap dance, our feet’ll be steamin’
Hijinx, hijinx, hijinx, alright
Hi, hi, hijinx, yeah, yeah"

I looked backstage, and saw Bill and the guys... enjoying our music? I smiled, and took it as shocking encouragement as I finished up.

"Hijinx, hijinx, hijinx, alright
Hi, hi, hijinx yeah, yeah
Who’s who?
Who’s who?
Hi, hi, hijinx, yeah, yeah, yeah
Who’s who?
Who’s who?"

As Val finished up with the guitar I smiled, and we started off with our gear. "G'night guys! Enjoy The Academy Is!" I yelled, Throwing a hand up to wave. As I thought, I realized I almost meant it after what I'd seen just mere moments before backstage.

As soon as we got offstage I sighed and stretched. Being a lead singer isn't as easy as it looks. We have to keep up the crowd morale, joke around, be all over the place, just to keep the people entertained. And for me, it wasn't all that natural. In reality, I wasn't the biggest fan of the limelight. It was just something about the feeling onstage, everyone actually appreciating you, that kept me there. I went to the bathroom and looked in the mirror and pulled my hair back before coming back to the waiting area offstage, so I could watch some of TAI's set while I still liked them a little bit. As got out there, I was surprised to see Bill, without the rest of the band, onstage with an acoustic guitar. I tilted my head with a small smile. This could be interesting...

I couldn't help but roll my eyes as I heard a large number of girls scream at such a pitch that would make any dog go deaf. He just laughed a little and smiled as he sat down on the stool set out there.

"Hi, everyone." I heard him say, followed by more screaming. I shook my head as he attempted to continue. "Well, I was thinking over the set list for tonight, and I realized that we hadn't played this in a while. Some of you may not of heard it, it was on our EP, From the Carpet. So, I thought I'd treat you while we set up. It's called The Fever." he finished, and I heard even more screams as he started to play.

Lies are lies in everybody’s eyes
and I don’t believe you

When the summer is gone
It won’t be long
‘til someone’s got the fever creeping inside

I honestly think that in that moment, my mouth nearly fell off. Sice when did William Beckett have actual talent? I mean, he was singing... well! And playing amazing acoustic at the same time! I remained quietly shocked as he continued.

This is the last time
Lies are lies in everybody’s eyes
And I don’t believe you
Lies are lies in everybody’s eyes
And I don’t believe you
lies are lies in everybody’s eyes
lies are lies

Can’t fight it, no I just can’t fight it
Can’t fight it, no I just can’t
Well we all agree that we don’t believe
This is the last time
This is the last time

Well they promised you
Now you see the truth
This is the last time

As he went on, a wide smile spread across my face, and I couldn't help tapping my foot. He had a gorgeous voice... When he tried.

When the summer is gone
It won’t be long until someone’s
Got the fever.

As the song came to a close, I couldn't help but cheer and clap with the rest of the group. What could I say? That deserved respect. The rest of the band came out then, and I enjoyed the rest of the show for once... But I couldn't stop thinking one thing... Was I falling in love with Bill?
