Booze, Boys, and Buses

Chapter Thirty-Nine

My Nana stood to my right while I looked into the long body mirror. My figure was dressed in an elegant wedding gown. My hair was pinned up in the back and fell gracefully over my left shoulder. For once in my life I could look at myself and say that I felt beautiful.

“Cassie.” Nana said, holding my arm.

“Yeah?” I asked, continuing to look at myself.

“You look just like your mother did at her wedding with your father.” She paused and I looked at her. “You look like an angel.”

My heart stopped and I realized just how right she was. My mom had looked absolutely gorgeous in her pictures. My Nana rubbed my back and sighed.

“I’m going out to my seat. Robert will be right in to walk you down the aisle.”

“Okay.” I said, hugging her.

She left the room and I looked at myself again. I pulled my veil over my face and stared in the mirror. I looked so grown up. That was how I wanted to look though. I couldn’t help but feel like I was missing something. I was in my early twenties and married with two kids. Even though I loved them both and my fiancée dearly, I almost felt like I hadn’t quite lived my life yet. I hadn’t partied enough, I hadn’t traveled enough. Then again, this also opened the door to new adventures. I had a family now. I could still do all the traveling I wanted, but now I would do it with the people I loved.

“Are you ready to go?” Matt’s father asked.

“I sure am, thank you for doing this Robert.” I said, accepting his arm.

We walked out the door and then through the curtains leading into the church. I saw many of my old friends and family members along with a lot of Matt’s friends and family. The four band guys stood next to Matt. Matt saw me and I his eyes started to glisten. He mouthed out a “wow.” My eyes started to water. I couldn’t help but smile when I saw him standing there. When I got up to him I was overjoyed. Robert kissed my cheek and sent me up to Matt. Matt took my hands in his. He couldn’t stop smiling. Neither could I.

“Do you, Matthew Charles Sanders take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife?” The pastor asked.

There was a pause. Matt looked deep into my eyes. He stroked over my hand with his thumb and then sighed.

“I do.”

“Do you, Cassandra Marie Howard take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband?” He asked me.

This was it. Everyone was staring at me for an answer. My whole life would change based on what answer I gave. I stared deep into Matt’s eyes and instantly knew. I knew that he was the man I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.

“I do.”
