Who knows what comes next

"DAD!, NO!"

"KAYLA!" I screamed "HELP!"
"What's wrong?" Kayla asked as she came running up the stairs.
"I-it's dad," I stammered "I don't think he's b-breathing. K-Kayla, what we g-gonna do?" I rubbed by hands on my face
Kayla looked down at dad.
"You phone mum with your phone, and i'll phone the ambulance with mine,"
I was already digging my phone out my pocket. "Quick!" I whispered to Kayla, and pressed my phone to my ear.

Mum: Madi, hi!
Madi: Mum, I-it's dad, I don't think he's breathing.
Mum: What?
Madi: Kayla's phoning the ambulance now, meet us at the hospital.
Mum: Okay, i'm just picking Carl up.
Madi: Fine, just hurry.
I put the phone down.

Minutes later, flashing lights appeared at the window, the ambulance had arrived.
Kayla was rushing down the stairs to open the door.
I heard voices
"Up here," Kayla's voice said
"Okay," Another deeper male voice said.
Footsteps on the stairs
Two ambulance men appeared, one old, one young.
The rest of the afternoon, I only remember in pieces
Getting in the ambulance
arriving at the hospital
Mum arriving with Carl
Doctors telling us he had suffered a heart attack
the four of us huddling together in the hospital's waiting room
Doctors finally telling us "Sorry, he didn't make it."
I don't know what triggered it, those four words, probably, but I just broke down in tears.
None of us could face seeing him right now, So we all huddled into the car and drove home.
As soon as my head hit my pillow, I sobbed and sobbed and sobbed, until my insides felt raw.
This day has gone from good, to bad, to worse.
Why us, why do these things always, have to happen to us?
Could things get, any worse?

Apparently, they could.
