What Happens Under The Sun

Chapter Thirty

My dad's eyes went wide as he looked over the front page. He flipped to the inside where the rest of the article was and he looked as though he might have had an aneurysm. When he finally looked up at me there was no doubt in my mind that I looked like a deer in a set of high beams.

''What's this?'' he asked, tilting the magazine so that I could see.

''She's gonna kill you.'' I heard Jessica whisper to Jenkins.

''I uh-'' I cleared my throat. ''I met a boy on vacation daddy.''

''Do you have any idea who this boy is?'' he asked, putting down the magazine and tapping on Tom's face.

''Tom?'' I said. I had only seen his last name once or twice in the article and I already couldn't think of it. He'd been just Tom to me.

''Tom Kaulitz.'' My dad said. The way he emphasized his last name told me that there was something more I needed to know.

''He's on my label Kate. Do you have any idea the reputation this boy has?'' he asked and I shook my head slowly.

''He's a sex fiend! He's known for the fact that he can't resist an easy groupie with a nice ass!'' he told me. My dad seemed angry, but not at me, at him.

''It's no big deal daddy, I mean, it's not like he broke my heart or anything.'' I said, trying to calm him down.

''Yet! Just you wait! One day you'll go to see him backstage and he'll be humping some bleach blonde with fake boobs!'' my dad said and Jessica choked again as she tried to suppress her laughter.

''Dad! We didn't take it off the island. We spent a few days together and left it at that. I didn't even know where he was from.'' I told him.

''Exactly! He's already lied to you! I think I'll have a word with his manager.'' My dad said, pushing back from the table.

''Daddy, you're overacting! I didn't let him tell me where he was from because I didn't want to get too involved.'' I tried frantically to explain before my dad made the call and Tom got an earful from his manager.

''Honey just let me handle this.'' He got up and disappeared into his study. Jenkins was still standing there. I furrowed my eyebrows and looked angrily at him.

''What is the matter with you? None of this is a big deal! It would have gone unnoticed, but no, now I've got to practically confess to my dad that the only reason I was with Tom at all was because we spent every other night screwing each other senseless unless I want the poor guy murdered and the rest of his band dropped from the label!'' I said and Jenkins looked scared.

''I didn't know.'' He said softly.

''That's not a good enough excuse!'' I told him.

''Yea, you may as well have deflowered daddy's little princess yourself.'' Jessica said.

''Tom didn't deflower me Jessica.'' I said, rolling my eyes.

''He may as well have from the way you talk about it.'' she said with one eyebrow slightly raised.

''How good in bed he is is beside the point! The point being…'' I trailed off. I couldn't quite remember.

''He spilled the beans on the fact that you screwed the brains out of Tom Kaulitz.'' Jessica whispered.

''Right! You just couldn't keep your mouth shut.'' I said getting up, I had to go an do damage control.

I went into my dad's study and he was searching quickly through his PDA.

''Daddy?''

''I'm looking for the number, and then when I get a hold of him…'' he trailed off.

''Maybe you should just leave it for tonight. I mean, they weren't even coming back until tomorrow night and Jessica and I are here and dinner's on the table and-''

''Alright, but just because it's your first night back. Tomorrow, someone's going to get it.'' he said, getting up.

''I don't doubt it.'' I mumbled.

Jenkins was gone when we came back into the dining room and Jessica was fighting with a noodle that wouldn't stay on her fork.

Although the rest of the meal went relatively without a hitch, it was still unbelievably awkward. I really did feel like Jenkins had run in here and told my dad just who it was that had deflowered daddy's little princess.

The conversation was minimal and bland and we hardly talked about my trip. I didn't mind, almost every response that came to my mind when the question was about my vacation could either be seen as a sexual innuendo or had Tom's name in it. I was quite grateful for the silence.

After dinner, Jessica and I didn't bother to stay in the den and make small talk with my dad. That would have been a recipe for disaster.

Instead, we went straight up to our rooms and went to bed. It was still early, but we'd both been flying all day and used that as an excuse.

When my head hit the pillow though, I couldn't sleep even if I wanted to. Tom kept running across my mind, only he was being chased by my dad. Dread built in the pit of my stomach even though there weren't going to be negative consequences for me. It was dread for what was coming tomorrow, for what would happen to Tom when his manager got reamed by my dad.

That poor, poor boy with the dreadlocks.
