What Happens Under The Sun

Chapter Seven

I hadn't seen Tom after I had left him in the hot tub last night. I asked the bartender this morning and he said that he had left about five minutes after me and gone straight up to his room. He also said that Tom was grinning like an idiot as he went.

I was now sitting beside the pool, although I was practically hidden from view by a young couple sitting in front of me and none other than Miss Veronica on my right. That's probably why Tom didn't see me when he and his friend jumped in the pool. But I could see him.

As I watched him swim, all the muscles in his torso moving in sync as he backstroked, I scrolled through the music on my ipod. I tried to find a song that matched his pace. It was rather hard considering that all the music on my ipod, save for about three songs, was classical or jazz. I found that anything other than that sounded like noise to me.

Tom didn't look in my direction more than once. I figured it was because he didn't want to catch Veronica's eye. He continued to swim, the sun reflecting ever so slightly off his wet body.

I saw Veronica trying to catch his attention. He looked pointedly in the other direction. I smirked. Oh the things Iwould do had done to this boy and I had barely known him two days.

Both of the boys went under water and started to swim. I assumed they were racing and I took the opportunity to go out to the hot tub. I had left my bracelet there last night and only remembered it this morning.

I went out and looked around. It wasn't there. I went back to the patio and over to the bar to ask if anyone had returned it. Someone had.

I slipped it on my wrist and turned to go back to my chair, but I stopped. Standing poolside, dripping wet, was the boy with the dreadlocks. And he was cornered by the blonde from the beach.

She was standing way too close and Tom looked like he was looking for an opening to leave. I moved a bit closer so that I could hear their conversation, but remained carefully out of view.

''I couldn't find you yesterday, I looked everywhere.'' She said. She sounded happily oblivious to the fact that he had probably been in his room hiding from her.

''I was feeling a little sick, spent the night in my room.'' He lied.

''Well you seem to be feeling better.'' She said.

''So what do you bench?'' she asked suddenly, looking hungrily at his biceps.

''Uh.''

''Sorry, I didn't mean to be so forward.'' She giggled and I rolled my eyes.

''Well since you're feeling better, why don't we go to Eduardo's for lunch so we can get to know each other a little better.'' She said. He looked like he wanted to run.

I couldn't take it anymore. He was clearly not interested and she was clearly oblivious to the fact. I felt sort of bad for her, but at the same time, I wanted her to leave him alone.

So I decided to intervene.

I walked straight over to Tom and put one hand on his right arm without even so much as glancing at Veronica.

''Hey babe, sorry I'm late.'' I said then put my free hand on the back of his neck and pulled his lips to mine.

He was caught totally off guard for a minute, but as I started to pry his lips apart with my tongue, he quickly caught on. His right hand fell to my lower back and pushed my body against his as our tongues wrestled.

My god he was a good kisser.

I pulled away before he could get to into it and smirked at him.

''It's alright, I killed some time with Bill.'' He said and I assumed he meant his friend. I finally turned around and looked at Veronica.

''Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't see you there.'' I said and she smiled bitterly.

''I'll see you around.'' She said and then hurried towards the lobby.

''Thanks.'' He said once she was out of earshot. His right hand was still on my lower back and our bodies were still firmly against each other.

''You owe me.'' I said with a wink as I removed myself from his hold.

''And I'll hold you to it.'' I added as I walked away.

*~Tom's Point of View~*

she left the patio in the direction of the garden maze. The taste of her was still sweet on my lips and my skin tingled ever so slightly where her body was against mine.

''Did you see that?'' I asked Bill who had just gotten out of the pool.

''Don't read too much into it Tom. She probably felt bad that that girl was so hooked on you and was saving you both out of pity.'' He said as he toweled his hair.

''Whatever, she said I owed her.'' I told him.

''Yea, cause she saved your ass by kissing your slobbery face!'' Bill laughed. I furrowed my eyebrows and whipped him with my towel.

''Asshole!'' he yelled and I laughed.

Bill still didn't believe what I told him about last night even though Kate had fully just shoved her tongue down my throat right in front of him. It didn't bother me that much though, because whether Bill believed me or not, she had just kissed me, and I owed her for it.
