What Happens Under The Sun

Chapter Seventy-five

I still couldn't believe the words that had come out of my mouth. I loved him? I loved him? I wanted to deny it, to say that it was a slip of the tongue, that it wasn't true, but I couldn't bring myself to lie.

The truth was that I loved him, completely and undeniably. I always had. From the minute when our lips first met, I had been absolutely head over heels for him. Unfortunately, I didn't want to believe it. Even though my heart had been screaming it at a deafening volume, I had ignored it, denied it, fought it because I refused to believe that I had fallen for some guy I had met on vacation, refused to admit that I was vulnerable.

In the spirit of life changing revelations, I realized that Tom wasn't just 'some guy' I had met on vacation. Sure he had started out that way, but by the time I left, he knew me and I knew him, inside and out. We both knew what the other liked, we know what the other didn't like, we know what the other wanted, and what the other was afraid of. Tom wasn't 'some guy' any more, he was the guy.

''You heard me.'' I said, but my voice had lost all of its fire.

''Kateā€¦'' he trailed off, his voice a mix of emotions that I couldn't read.

What was he going to say? Was he going to say he loved me back? The silence had never been so loud. Was he going to tell me that he didn't love me? That he was only in it for the sex the whole time? Was he going to tell me that it didn't matter how we felt because we couldn't be together? I was going to spontaneously combust before he answered me and I'd never know what he said. I couldn't take this kid of anticipation!

Fuck it.

I ran towards him, quickly closing the gap between us and jumped up around his waist as I attached my lips to his. I kissed him furiously, locking my hands behind his neck. Tom froze, he didn't even make a move to hold me up. But then,

He kissed me back.

His arms locked around me as his lips started to move in perfect sync with mine.

''I love you, I love you, I love you.'' I repeated against his lips. I slid down and stood against him.

''I've waited forever to hear you say that.'' Tom said and I smiled.

''Katie I've always loved you.'' He admitted, his perfect brown eyes burning into mine as he gently cupped one side of his face with his hand.

I couldn't tell if it was the rain or if I was crying, but there was water all down my cheeks and my eyes stung. I was guessing the latter.

''And you're only telling me this now?'' I asked playfully and he smiled.

''Nothing was allowed to change remember?'' he replied and I rolled my eyes.

''The next time I say something like that, ignore me.'' I smiled and then leaned in and pressed my lips firmly against Tom's.

''So now what?'' I asked when he pulled away.

We had just confessed out love for each other, but we were still standing out back, in the pouring rain, of a party held by my father, the one who had forbidden us from being together in the first place.

''What do you mean?'' he asked.

''Well we can't very well walk out the front door together; the paparazzi would go crazy and my dad very well might kill you before we got three feet.'' I reminded him.

Tom furrowed his eyebrows and a look of deep thought presented itself on his face. We were still in the rain, but neither of us seemed to notice. Just like how neither of us seemed to notice the fact that our fingers were laced tightly together as our hands hung at our sides.

''Stay at my place tonight.'' He finally said.

''I just told you w-''

''We can't be seen leaving together, so I'll go out first and have my driver circle the block a few times and then come back for you and no one will be any the wiser.'' He said with a rather proud smirk.

''You're quite clever.'' I smirked.

''That's what I've been trying to tell people.'' He replied and then kissed me quickly.

''What about Jessica?'' I asked, furrowing my eyebrows. ''She'll be expecting me to come back.''

''Make something up, you're good at that.'' Tom said with a wink and I rolled my eyes.

''I'll call you when we're back out front.'' He said as we walked back towards the door we'd come out of.

I couldn't help but smile as we made our way back into the club, my hand still tightly in his. All of this was quite exciting, sneaking around and making secret plans. It was rather childish, but I got quite a rush from the feeling. I couldn't help but think that this was how Juliet felt when she and Romeo snuck away to get married.

We were inside the club now, but not in far enough to be seen by anyone.

''I'll go talk to Jessica.'' I told him, as I started to walk away.

Tom pulled me to a stop by my hand, and I turned around, confused. He walked towards me. He pressed his lips tightly against mine.

''I love you Kate.''

''I love you too.'' I replied, my cheeks a light shade of pink.

''Now let's get out of here.''
