Shameless

Butterflies Aren't fireworks

The car pulled up in front of the motel and to my surprise Brenden actually got out of the car and went around to the other side to open my door.

Manners; what a concept!

The whole night was filled with laughter, poking jokes at each other and a shit load of coffee. Before either of us knew it, it was 12 am and we were through out of the coffee shop.

Brenden placed his arm around my neck as he walked me towards the stairs, still laughing from what was said in the car.

"I can't believe you actually set fire to your Violin! That has to be the most amazing thing I've ever heard!" He laughed, pulling me slightly closer.

"I hated the damn thing! Guitar is so much more my style! My mom flipped through!" I said between laughs, almost tripping up the stairs.

I wasn't drunk just majorly Hyper. You try staying sane once you've drunken 4 cups of coffee, then tell me I'm crazy.

"What did she do!?"

"Well to punish me, she made me use my sisters Violin instead! Made me practice instead of going to our 8th grade dance." I said, letting out a loud laugh before finally reaching the tip of the stairs.

Brenden's hand casually slid down to my waist and wrapped itself around it, pulling me slightly closer to him until our bodies were touching.

We stopped in front of the door and I looked up at him, the moon lightly flashing in his dark brown eyes.

My bangs once again fluttered into my eyes but this time, I didn't move them out of my eyes. Instead, He did.

He gently brushed it off my face and pushed it behind my ear smiling down at his now clear view of my green eyes.

"I had a lot of fun tonight Brendon." I said quietly, the jitteriness of my body beginning to calm from his touch.

"I bet I had more fun then you did." He said, chuckling a bit as a small, crooked smile made its way across his face. He slowly took a cautious step closer to me and I did the same. Our bodies were almost pressed against each other but neither of us broke our eye contact.

"We should really hang out again sometime..." I said, my voice becoming slightly quieter as I began feeling slightly shyer.

Suddenly, I felt his fingers intertwining with mine. My heart rate shot up in less than a nanosecond.

"Maybe next time it could be more of a, I don't know, Date setting." His eyes veered away nervously for a second and then went directly back to mine.

"You mean like... A date date?" I asked, my face becoming ever so warm.

"Well... Uh... I mean... if you want..." He said quietly, now looking down at his feet and then back up at my eyes, giving me just enough time to catch the color on his cheeks.

"I'd... I'd really like that, Brenden..." His eyes shot up eagerly, almost looking in disbelief.

"Really?" I asked, seeming not to believe me one bit.

"Yes really. Give me one reason why not really?" I giggled. Once again a soft wind blew my bangs out from behind my ear and into my face as the ends of the hairs danced across my cheeks and chin, making it tingle slightly.

But when Brenden moved his hand back up and moved the hairs away... His touch left far more of a tingle... And this time...

He didn't move his hand.

I noticed him slowly leaning closer, his eyes darting around my face until meeting mine. They then slowly began moving down towards my lips and held their gaze there.

I knew just what he was thinking at that very moment.

In a matter of what seemed to be long seconds, the space between us grew ever so small as his lips inched closer and closer to mine, the feeling of his hot breath sending tingles down my spine.

My eyes instinctively closed and that's when I felt it... Brenden's lips... pressed against mine...

He kissed me ever so gently, barely even letting our lips touch at all. I took another tiny step closer but that was all that was needed to let him know I was kissing him back.

Something was off... I couldn't put my finger on it... This should feel amazing... But... It didn't...

Maybe it was just the fact that it was the first time I ever kissed this boy but... I didn't feel any real sparks. I felt butterflies... But... Butterflies aren't fireworks.

But... Butterflies have to count for something... Right?

His hands slowly snaked down to my hips as he pulled me closer to his body, holding me tight against his as the kiss began getting deeper.

He slowly pulled his lips away from mine but refused to let go of me. A small, almost relived smile came across his face but his eyes were still closed.

I couldn't help but feel myself smiling a little bit. I just kissed Brenden Urie for god sakes! BRENDEN -FUCKING- URIE!

"So, I'll uh... see you soon?" I asked quietly, my hand slowly slipping out of his. He seemed to snap out of the small trance he was in as his eyes shot open and looked down at me.

"Yeah... That sounds... Nice..." He smiled awkwardly, most likely yelling at himself in his head at out odd he sounded, but I really didn't mind. I got up on my tippy toes and kissed him quickly on the cheek before opening the door to the motel room.

"Night Brenden..." I mumbled softly, stepping into the room as the door closed quietly behind me.

Only for a second, I stood in the darkness, my eyes darting towards the clock.

1:43 Pm.

I knew that if I woke Alex up he'd be questioning me all night so I quietly got into my bed, regardless of what I was wearing and laid there quietly, letting my mind wonder.

I couldn't help but glance over at the peacefully sleeping Alex, curled up in a ball on the couch. A small smile came across my face as I rolled over onto my side, facing my back towards him.

Brenden Urie kissed me...

And I kissed him back...

And only one question kept me up all night long...

Was it a Mistake?
