The Break Up

He's gone out. Finally. I'm alone. I leave my room to find Mariah sitting in the living room drinking coffee or tea or something hot.
"So that was your hot get together sex?" she chortles, "Oh baby that's the spot and done."
"I have to break up with him." I grumble as I sit next to her.
"I'd say so, if that's your sex life then whoa."

"Tre came over yesterday." I mumble.
"And?"
"He said he liked me. . . like, I wanna sex you up, like me."
"I can pretend to be surprised, but seriously, I saw it coming, Donnie saw it coming, hell Simon probably even saw it coming."
"Shut-up." I groan, "I don't know what to do."
"Simple, break up with Simon and bang Tre until his balls turn blue."
"Oh so that's all then." I say sarcastically.

"Taylor called this morning, while you were in the shower, avoiding Simon."
"Don't wanna deal with her right now." I groan, just as the phone starts to ring.
"That's probably her again." Mariah mumbles, "Have fun with that." she heaves herself off the couch and goes into her room.

I pick up the phone.
"Hello?"
"What the hell are you doing in San Francisco?!" It's my sister Liberty.
"Mommy said a swear!" a child's voice exclaims in the background.
"Got a journalist job here."
"I'm your only sister and I have to find out through your ex-roommates!"
"Sorry, I forgot to call you."

"Do Mom and Dad know?"
"No, but let's face it Lib, they haven't called either of us in like a year."
"I still think you should tell them."
"Yeah, yeah."

"Since I'm talkind to you, how are you?"
"Good I guess."
"How's Simon? Did he move too?"
"Urghck. No. I'm going to break up with him."
"What? Why?"
"Let's just say my heart belongs to a guy in Oakland."

"You've been two-timing Simon!" Liberty exclaims.
"No, I haven't done anything."
"You better have not!" she warns.

She takes a deep breath.
"Who is this other guy? Is he a journalist like you?"
"Err, no he's in a band."
"A band! Goddmanit Ami!"
"The band is getting really successful." I say in Tre's defense.

"You expect him to stay loyal to you when he'd on the road?"
"Well his bandmates are loyal to their girlfriends."

"And what happens when their success runs out? Then you've got a lazy bum on your hands."
"Well Liberty, what can I tell you. If and when that happens then I'll deal with them, till then it doesn't matter."

"You're being stupid Ami!" she exasperates, "Simon is the smart choice for you!"
"Yeah, the smart choice until the divorce. Liberty, I know what I want and that isn't what you have, I don't want the perfect picket fence family, not now anyway."
"And what do you want? To act like a kid the rest of your life?"
"That doesn't sound half bad actually."
"Ami-Defleur!" she exclaims, "You have to settle down someday!"
"What so I can be old like you!"
"I'm only three years older!
"We might as well be centuries apart." I say calmly, "Good Bye Liberty."

I rub my forehead, now I have my sister on my case, as if things weren't hectic enough this weekend.
"Hey hun." Simon says walking through the front door.
"Urgh, hi." I say as we walk up to kiss me, "We need to talk."
"Alright." he says sitting down.

"Well, I want to break up." I say bluntly.
"What? Why?" he stammers, "Is it the distance."
"Partially, but I just don't think we're right for each other."
"I uhh, don't know what to say."
"I'm sorry." I say sympathetically.

"Is there somebody else?"
"Not really, I mean, I haven't done anything."
"Argh, okay." he groans, "So I guess I'll stay in a hotel tonight."
"No, no, you can stay here, I'll ugh crash at a friend's place."
"You sure?" he asks.
"Yeah." I sigh out of the sheer feeling of guilt, "I'm really sorry."
"Okay." he says coldly, "I'm leaving tomorrow at ten in the morning, I'd prefer it if well I didn't see you."
"I understand." I say as I head to my room.

I gather up some basic stuff before heading out. As far as I was concerned I could either stay at Shithead's mystery, theoretical apartment or I could go to the Green Day Shag Pad. My choice was only obvious as I hailed a passing cab.
