As My Tears Turn Red

Chapter 28

Risk!

I pulled away from Kay and jumped into Risk's arms.

He caught me with a laugh.

“I thought-” I began but Risk cut me off.

“Shh... I know. It's ok. Let's not talk about that now.” I nodded into his shoulder and he put me down.

There was a clang in the kitchen causing me to jump and look at the empty doorway.

Kay was no longer standing there and I felt a pain of guilt.

I started walking inside and Risk followed.

We made it to the kitchen where the boys were sitting around the table and looking at Kay who had his face shoved in the refrigerator.

I sat at the table and leaned against Trek.

He glanced down at me and I mouthed, “What's wrong now?”

Trek rolled his eyes; something rare and then nodded towards Risk.

“Oh.” I mouthed back and hit my forehead with my hand.

“What do I do?” I whispered in is ear.

Trek shrugged before getting up and walking out of the room.

I glanced around: Risk was leaning against a wall looking at me concerned, the guys were all looking at me and Kay still hadn't moved from the fridge.

I sighed loudly, got up, and tapped Kay on the shoulder.

He turned and looked at me.

“We need to talk.” I told him.

“There's nothing to talk about.” He crossed his arms.

“Yes there is.”

“No there's not. I just don't like demon's.” He glared at Risk, “Especially ones that mysteriously come back to life.

I stepped back shocked and bumped into someone.

I looked up to see Risk standing behind me.

“I'm alive because of a power some demons have. I can steal life from around me.” I gasped.

“So who'd you kill to live then?” Kay glared daggers.

“All the plants in that apartment complex.” Risk glared back.

I exhaled.

How could I ever think Risk would steal another's life.

“Wait then what took you so long to show up?” I turned around to face him.

“There was only enough plant life to barely keep me alive. I had to hide out and gain strength.”

“Oh. Well, I'm glad your back.”

“I'm glad to be back too.”

“You can't stay here.” Kay gritted his teeth.

“Kay! Stop being a jerk.”

“You stop being a slut.”

My eyes instantly teared up and I pushed myself out of the kitchen and ran through the front door.

I was in an unfamiliar neighborhood but I didn't care.

'How could he say that? He was my best friend. Friends don't say that type of thing.'

'Lilith? Are you ok?' Si asked.

'Yeah Si I'm fine.'

“Lillith.” I looked up to see Dakota in front of me.

I glanced behind me and saw Risk running around the corner after me.

I wiped my eyes, but more tears came.

Dakota wrapped his arms around me, whispering in my ear, “Shhh, It's ok. Shhh.”

I leaned into his warm embrace and he turned into a wolf putting me on his back.

I wrapped my arms around his neck afraid to fall and he sprinted off.

I glanced back again to see Risk running behind me.

My mind didn't really register it though and I just buried my face in Dakota's fur trying to dry my tears.

“Lillith!” Risk called desperately trying to catch up but I could tell he was still weak and Dakota was going to fast.

I turned my head to watch his slowly fading form.

The last thing I saw before I slipped into unconsciousness was his sad face mumbling my name.

I woke up as we arrived at Dakota's mansion.

Dakota carried me inside and laid me on the couch.

“I missed you.” I smiled up at the wolf.

He grinned and nudged me before turning back into his human form.

“You'll never know how much I missed you.” He paused with a face of confusion, “Now tell me. Why were you outside crying?”

I shook my head not wanting to tell him.

He glared gaining that possessive look.

“Tell me Lilith.” He said still gentle anger glinting in his eyes.
I sighed not wanting him to get mad.

“Kay,” I began slowly and Dakota interrupted.

“What did he do? If he hurt you I swear-”

“Dakota relax. He just called me a name thats all.”

“That's all? If it was no big deal you wouldn't have been running away, crying Lilith. What did he call you?”

My voice didn't come above a whisper as I told him.

Immediately he stood up, anger flaring.

“How dare he?!”

“Dakota calm down.” I stood from the couch but he ignored me.

“Sam!”

“Dakota.” I tried again as Sam came into view.

“Watch her for me. I'll be back.” Sam nodded and walked over to me as Dakota dissapeared out the front door.

“Dakota!” I yelled after him but he was already gone.

'Crap.'

'What happened?' Si seemed to always be listening.

'I just slipped up and now Dakota is going off to attack Kay.'
'Your at Dakota's?'

'Yeah I just got here.'

“So where's Dakota going?” Sam asked.

“To beat up Kay I guess.” I looked at him sadly.

Sam's eyes widened.

“What?” I asked.

“Uhmm.. I'd hate to say this but Dakota won't stop at just beating him up. He will kill him.”

“Sam we have to stop him.” He was already one step ahead of me though.

In his wolf form he gestured with his head for me to climb on his back.

I hopped on and we raced off toward Kay's.
