Turn The Other Way

A pity chance?

I sighed and closed my eyes, tilting my head down.

“Dad, don’t do this.”

“Don’t do what, Lynn, tell you the truth?”

“Dad-“

“Lynn, we came here for a reason,” Dad started. “So you two could make up and be on good terms.”

I glared at him. “If you just came here so I could take Matt back just so you could put on a fucking good show, then fuck you,” I told him lowly before turning on my heel. He grabbed my arm and pulled me back to face him. “Dad, let me go. You know everything he did to me! I just can’t take him back after that! I even tried to be his friend for a while! But you know where that got me?! I was used.”

“Did he use you, Lynn, or did he actually mean it?”

“Anyone in their fucking mind can see he used me, Dad.”

“Just give the poor guy a chance.”

“A pity chance? No.”

“Lynn, he’s not going to hurt you anymore. He’s vowed to do anything to get you back.”

“Psh. Yeah, ok.”

“Jesus. You’re as stubborn as Brent.”

“Yeah. I know.” I crossed my arms and leaned on the brick wall. Dad just sighed and walked away. Soon Jimmy came and stood across from me.

“I guess their plan backfired, huh?” he asked.

I just looked away, the tears finally falling. Before Jimmy had a chance to see them, I wiped them.

“Am I that worthless?” I asked. “Am I so worthless that people just have to take advantage of me?” I asked him. Quickly, Jimmy pulled me into a hug. I then just let it all out, soaking his chest.

“Lynn, let me talk and don’t say anything ‘til I’m done, okay?” I didn’t respond, so he continued. “Matt hasn’t shut up about you lately.” I rolled my eyes but didn’t say anything. “I’ll voice my opinion right now. I don’t think he deserves someone as wonderful as you. Someone as beautiful and light hearted either. You are the perfect person, Lynn. You are by all means not worthless. But I can say one thing. Matt really does love you. I know he didn’t use you; that was not at all what he was going for. But he won’t shut up about you,” he now chuckled. “Brian’s had to punch him a few times to shut him up.” I smiled at that thought. Little brother punching big sisters ex. “I’m not saying be with him or anything, but I know how you feel about things. If you want to give him a chance, that’s cool. If not, we’ll have a depressed Matt on our hands, and no. I’m not just saying this for the sake of the tour. I’m saying it for the sake of you and Matt. He loves you, Lynn, and everything he’s told you minus a few details has been the truth.”

“Are you done now?” I asked.

“Yup.”

“Okay. Same goes for you. No interrupting.”

“Got it.”

“I have heard this before. I’m not going to go back to Matt just because of some words. He has to prove it. Besides… what’s the point of trying anything? You guys are on tour and I live in Ohio now. The relationship is lost. Tell him to just get over it.” I pulled away from him and walked back to the crowd, avoiding Matt’s gaze.

“Ready?” I asked Laura. She nodded sympathetically. I gave everyone a hug, save for Matt who stormed off to the van and then went to Laura. I followed her to the car where I sat in the front seat.

So… this was it. Matt and I needed to move on. It’s done. It’s over. I don’t need him anymore.

The question I couldn’t help but ask myself was did I do this for his benefit or mine?

Matt’s POV

First Lynn came out from the side. Her eyes were swollen and red. I couldn’t help but beat myself up for making her sad. How could I? I ruined everything because of my lame ass excuse for divorcing her. I couldn’t help but wonder where we’d be if I never did divorce her. I had to get her back. One way or another, I would. I was sure of that.

“Ready to go?” Lynn asked Laura, who simply nodded. I went straight to the van, knowing she wouldn’t say bye to me. Jimmy followed me shortly after.

“Wanna know what she said?” he asked as he crawled in beside me.

“Hm?” I asked.

“First she said she was worthless.” I shook my head. Lynn was anything was worthless. “So I told her she wasn’t and how you keep talking about her. Between Papa Gates and me, she should know how you feel. Question is if she believes it or not. So she said she’s not going to go back to you because of some words that you have to prove it. Then she said there was no hope because we’re on tour, and we live in Cali while she’s in Ohio.”

I nodded. After tour, that was when I was going to get her back. Whatever I do, I’m going to get her back. Step by step.

“So what’re you going to do?” Jimmy asked.

“First we need her to come back to California,” I said. The rest of the group joined in the van and the doors closed. “Syn,” I said.

“Yea?” he replied.

“I need you to help me with something.”
