All of a sudden, we remembered Ashley’s body lying on the ground and we decided that she needed a proper burial, so we started digging with some shovels that Sienna found. We quickly dug a hole, and we rolled Ashley in. Then we covered the hole with the rest of the dirt, found a decent sized rock to stick at the head. We stood silent for a while, and then Devin stated that we needed a place to sleep. Only then did we notice the setting sun. It cast a fiery orange against the horizon and we started to realize for one, how late it was and two, how tired we were. I stated that since my house was the farthest from the plant, it would be the least destroyed and so we set off for my house. We arrived there around seven o’ clock to find Nikki, my next-door neighbor who went to a private school, crying. She was not the kind of girl that would cry, so I wondered what had happened. The most obvious answer was that her parents and family had died and she was sick of all the death. I wondered how she was alive, and then was grateful that she was. She was a good friend and it would be sad to lose her too. All of us told her all about what had happened and I invited her to stay at my house. The plan was for the guys to stay at my house and the girls to stay at Nikki’s place to be clean. The days went by fast and soon enough we all seemed like family. The food also went quickly, so we went to the empty stores and scavenged for food. There were loads of food, and we dragged them home. Our refrigerators were brimming with food, and we liked it. On the fifth night of our new lives, Sean came to my room saying
“Hey, man, you know what we haven’t done in a while?”
“What?” was my response.
“Our old heart-to-heart talks.”
“Okay, what’s up?”
“Well, there’s someone that I like, but I don’t think that she’s interested in me. I don’t know what to do, should I tell her or should I give up on her?”
“It’s Nikki, isn’t it?”
“Ya… How’d ya know?”
“Well, I figured, Sienna’s got me and you would never date her again, Rebecca has Joey and you really never had any interest in her, except as a friend. So that leaves Nikki, although I have no idea why you would like her…she’s crazy.”
“Whatever. I need your help. I really like her, but I don’t know if she has the same feelings. It would be really embarrassing if I confessed and she didn’t like me too, but I want to tell her.”
“Well I think that you really should tell her your true feelings, she might feel the same.”
“Alright. I’ll tell her sometime.”
“Okay. Night.”
Sean exited the room after our talk, went to his bed, thought about Nikki, but couldn’t get any sleep at all.
