Messed Up Youthful Innocence

When I Woke Up Next To You

{Andy's Point Of View}

“Hey dad?”

I turned around to find drew following me up the stairs.

“Yes?”

“You love mom, right?” Drew asked shakily.

“What?”

“You still love mom right?”

“Yes, why wouldn’t I?”

“I dunno, I just…” he trailed off, for some reason he looked scared.

“I told your mother I loved her when she was fifteen, nothing has changed.”

“Okay”

“Why are you so curious about it?”

“You’ve been fighting a lot lately and I just wanted to make sure nothing was going to
happen.”

“Fighting? Trust me drew, this isn’t fighting.”

“Fine, arguing. You’ve been arguing a lot”

“Over you two, and how you should be raised, nothing more.”

“What do you mean?”

“Your mother thinks I’m acting more like a teenager than you are.”

“Dad, newsflash, you are”

“The situation has been remedied. But what did you think was going to happen?”

“I dunno, maybe you’d separate or get a divorce or something. Maybe you regretted getting
married and having Katie and me.”

I raised an eyebrow at Drew

“Drew. I already told you. I told your mother I loved her when she was fifteen, I don’t think
either of us knew what it meant then. Granted, over the years we’ve had our fights, and it
isn’t the same love as it was when we were teenagers, it’s different, better actually. She’s
my best friend in the whole world, I tell her everything. I have never, and I will never regret
anything when it comes to her, or you and Katie.”

“But, would you have gotten married if I never existed?”

Something had this boy running scared, and I had no idea what it was.

“I was shopping for engagement rings, and had been, for several months when your mother
told me she was pregnant with you. We would of gotten married either way. Plus Drew, you
know how Petey is? I would have been so much worse if it wasn’t for your mother.”

“Oh okay.” drew mumbled before walking away

“Drew, you okay?”

“yeah, it’s just, I dunno, you two have been whispering and you’ve been on the phone a lot,
and whoever you are mom just looks… apprehensive I guess” he turned around and
continued towards the rest of the house.

I really wanted to know what was going on with him.

“Even after all these years you could still smooth talk me into anything.”

I turned to find Chrissy, almost strutting down the stairs.

“What?”

“Your timing and your suaveness. You had me before you realized you did.”

“I know.” I kissed Chrissy’s forehead.

“I never told a soul what happened the first time you told me you loved Me.” she had that
cute little smile on her face that always made me do whatever she asked.

“Neither did I. too much went on that night anyways.” I gently grabbed onto her waist.

“It was a perfect ending to that night. Perfect timing, perfect place, you’re good. Though,
Erelin pretty much figured out what happened afterwards.”

“Funny how I think of it what, twenty something years later and I still smile?” I said matching
the smile that Chrissy had on her lips.

“Nope, cause I do the same thing.”

We leaned in and our lips gently met before I nuzzled in to her neck.

“I love you” I whispered into her ear.

“I love you too”
