It all started off as a dare

Chapter Seven

Weeks and weeks go by without a word from Stacey.
I count each day, each night, but still nothing. If she could think what I was going through right now.
For a while I thought she had died. Maybe her Dad had killed her while he was drunk, and her Mum too. We had heard nothing from her Dad either.
But then, one lonely morning in December while my mum was at work, I received a letter in the post. I picked the flimsy piece of paper up, my hand shaking with nerves. As I ripped it open, every sinew in my body hoped that it would be her. It did look like her writing...
The note said:

Dear Jax,
Me and Mum are in Basingstoke
We took the train from Bristol on the day after I told you about Dad
I'm just saying that I'm fine here.
Mum and I are staying at a hostel right now, and they're looking after us well
Everyone's well nice here, but there are some really troubled people as well
We're gonna get our own flat soon.
Anyway, I miss you so much Jax
I hope I'll come home soon
Please send me a note back
This is the address:
32 Queen Mary's Ave.
Basingstoke
Hampshire

And dont tell a soul Jax, please
Miss you so much
Stacey xxxxx

I was literally jumping up and down with joy at this, so I got a pen and scribbled a note.
But then a thought entered my head:
Why don't I go and visit her?
