Letters to No One

For the Imaginary Enemy contest by Anti-Socialist.

Word count: 3,431

Rebecca is reaching the end of her sophomore year of high school and has learned that she is quite prone to disaster. She also tends to blame herself when things go wrong in her life, even when she knows that it's not her fault.

For these reasons, she decides to create an imaginary enemy: the polar opposite of an imaginary friend, so that she has someone else to blame for all of her problems. She hopes that it may be somewhat useful to lift from her shoulders the guilt that plagues her with each "disaster" that strikes.

She names her new imaginary enemy Humphrey (as seen in the layout), and through a series of carelessly written letters, she tells of small, silly things that upset her on a day-to-day basis.

But as the seriousness of her problems escalate with each letter she writes, she begins to believe more and more in Humphrey's existence.

Will someone bring her back to reality, or will she be forced to do it herself? Will she ever realize that she is writing these letters to no one?

But the more important question is:

Is she totally nuts, or just bananas?

A note from Yours Truly.

This is quite obviously not my best writing, but I do hope you get a laugh out of it. If not, well, then it's just stupid.

I apologize if the layout makes the story a bit hard to read in parts. But I think I should win this contest for the picture alone. xD

DISCLAIMER: I do not own clown suits, mullets, ugly baby heads, or the concept of imaginary enemies.
