Those Who Speak Our Language
This is a fictional story based on the historical event of British settlers taking over a French colony in northern Ontario, Canada during the 17th century. The story itself is about a young girl named Neehilawee who is an Aboriginal Cree living during the early settlements of Canada. She meets a British girl, Clara, whom is the same age as herself. The Native and the European become good friends despite their ethnic and background difference. Neehilawee learns how to write in English from her friend while she teaches her new friend Clara how to speak simple Cree in return. To me this story is about seeing through the differences of race and culture, to be open-hearted and open-minded to all races and cultures.
