Right before senior graduation and her eighteenth birthday, Freckle DeFlora's boyfriend, Augustus, disappears off the face of the earth. Handsome Jack, Freckle's boyfriend's bestest friend since third grade, has to know just where Freckle's prince has disappeared to. And so on the morning of graduation, Freckle decides love is much more important than receiving a diploma, and gathers the gang consisting of Handsome Jack, Laurie Chops, and Chania Redcross into Old Choky, the wheezing mini van Freckle got as a gift for her 16th birthday.

Destination, according to Handsome Jack: Syracuse, New York, where Augustus's grandmother is withering away in bed.

It's a total mystery as to how they ended up in Salt Lake City, but that's how things were supposed to be.
