DIY Home Canvas

In this tutorial, I’ll outline how to make this simple decorative canvas. It’s definitely a cute piece to hang up in a bedroom or in a dorm, and the possibilities to customize it and really make it your own are endless.

Materials

• A blank canvas in the size of your choice.
• A pair of scissors
• A pencil
• Acrylic paint in the colors of your choice

How to Make It

1. First, find an outline for the state, province, or country that you want to be the focus of your canvas. For mine, I simply Googled “South Carolina outline” and found numerous options. Once you’ve found an outline you like, print it out.
2. Next, slowly and carefully cut around the outline. The more precise you are, the better the finished project will look, so if you have an Exactoknife on hand, now would be a great time to use it, but if you don’t, no worries. I used a small pair of scissors that came with my knitting kit.
3. Place the outline in the center of your canvas and trace it with a pencil.
4. Lastly, paint your canvas in the colors that you like. Here’s what the finished product looks like. You can definitely add more elements to your canvas. For mine, I decided to add the South Carolina state motto in white.
