Ombre Nails

The fading color ombre look has been really popular recently, and the trend seems to be everywhere. From fashion to hair, ombre is an incredibly versatile trend, and this is an easy way to play with the trend without having to go out and buy new clothes or dye your hair.

For this nail art, you’ll need a cosmetic sponge, two complementary shades of nail polish (I usually use a light and a darker shade of pink or coral), a toothpick, and either a piece of paper, plastic sandwich bag, or saran wrap to use to transfer the design.

  1. Place a couple drops of each color on the paper or plastic wrap.
  2. Using the toothpick, blend the two shades together in the middle, leaving each end with a bit of just the plain shades, until you’re satisfied with the look.
  3. Next, press the makeup sponge into the design you’ve created. I will admit that it does take quite a bit of experimentation to figure out how much polish to use and how hard to press in order for the design to transfer neatly, but all in all, this is a very simple design to recreate.
  4. Transfer the ombre design by pressing the makeup sponge against the nail.
  5. Repeat steps one through four on each nail until you’re satisfied with the effect.
