Nebulas Nails
I’ve seen this galaxy art trend on a lot of things ranging from customized shoes to denim cutoff shorts, and I have to admit that, as a bit of a science nerd, I absolutely adore this look. Applying this spacey pattern to your nails can be an easy way to incorporate the look without spending a lot of money. Though this nail art looks extremely complicated, in all honesty, it really isn’t. I’ve tried this out with a few different colors on my toes, and I’ve gotten a ton of compliments on it when I rocked the starry pedi with my favorite pair of flip-flops.
To achieve this look, you’ll need a dark base coat (navy blue or black work the best), two lighter, brighter, sort of shimmery colors to create the nebulas (I’ve experimented with various shades I already had lying around the house), a clear top coat with silver glitter of assorted sizes (the varying sizes of the chunks of glitter makes the “stars” look more realistic), and a cosmetic sponge.
The Background
To create the background of this nail art, you’ll have to apply a couple coats of your dark base color. Allow a few minutes for this coat to dry before continuing.
The Nebula
To create the nebula, using the makeup sponge, lightly apply a thin layer of one of your brighter colors. Allow this layer to dry before playing around, applying thin layers of both colors with the sponge until you get a look that you’re satisfied with. Photos of real nebulae online are ridiculously easy to find and can serve as great inspiration as far as colors and layering goes.
The Stars
Once you’re happy with the nebula, apply the glittery top coat across the nail to serve as stars. If you’d like, you could top it off with a regular clear top coat to seal your artwork.
