Tinted Lip Balm

I'm the type of person that loves tinted lips but it's hard for me to find something that suits me. I love putting vaseline (petroleum jelly) and/or shea butter on my lips because it helps the eczema on my lips, but sometimes I want a color and higher gloss so they would stand out more. But it's hard for me to find a right color because my bottom lip is light while my top lip is almost the color of my skin. So I decided to make my own.

Products You Need

  • vaseline/ petroleum jelly
  • lipstick(s)

Nice Additions

  • Shea butter
  • low tint or clear lip gloss

Supplies

  • Small metal pot
  • lip balm container
  • metal spoon
  • tooth pick (to help get the products off the spoon)

Instructions

Depending on the size of your lip balm container, the amount of each product you use will vary. I used a two ounce container so I'll base it off of that.

Take four to five tea spoons (not the measurement teaspoon) of vaseline and two tea spoons of shea butter and put it in the pot. Depending on how opaque you want the color of your lipbalm to be, you might want to use more or less lipstick. I used two colors. These were the colors I used (since my skin color is chocolate/ cinnamon brown, the colors are darker).

I used about a half inch of each color and put it in the metal pot. If you choose to use lip gloss for a little gloss, squeeze/pour about a tea spoon of the lip gloss in the pot.

Once you've put all the products in the pot, put the burner on high on your stove. Let the products melt down before you quickly bring the heat down to low. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly because sometimes small pieces of the lipstick or lip gloss don't mix as easily.

Once all the products are mixed very well, let the pot sit a little while so the mixture can cool down before you pour it into your container. After it has cooled, pour the liquid into your lip balm container and put it in the refrigerator for about an hour or until solid.

Cool tips and affects.

  • If you want a little shimmer in your balm, you can always add white or translucent shimmer powder to your mixture.
  • Adding shea butter will help you if you have eczema on your lips like I do.
  • If you want a swirl look in your lipbalm with two colors, you can do two different colors in different pots. Pour them both into the same container at the same time and give them a little swirl.
