Doll Eyed

Face:

Dolls should have flawless skin and flushed cheeks, so getting clear, perfect-looking skin comes first.

  1. Make sure your face is clean and moisturized. Go ahead and use lip balm to prep your lips. If you want to put in contacts, I suggest doing that now.
  2. Apply face primer.
  3. Apply foundation. If you have already clear skin, use a light foundation, tinted moisturizer, or BB cream. If you want to look paler, mix in white foundation or white face paint, or use a lighter shade. Make sure to apply to ears, neck, and chest if those areas can be seen.
  4. Use a matching concealer on blemishes. Make sure everything is blended in well.
  5. Apply a translucent powder. You should have a matte complexion, so apply especially to areas that get oily. Kabuki brushes are great because they can apply enough to look matte but look natural. Again, make sure everything's blended well and you don't look cakey.

Eyes:

The fun part. The goal is to get larger looking eyes and super long lashes.

  1. As always, apply eye primer, from lower lashline to brow bone.
  2. Porcelain dolls usually have thin, round eyebrows. If you can, shape yours like this. If not, just smooth down and fill in brows. The keys is that look perfectly groomed.
  3. Apply a light, skin colored eye shadow to the brow bone. This is pretty optional.
  4. Apply either an eye shadow that matches your skin color or your face powder to the lid. You want your lid, particularly the area below the crease, to match your skin.
  5. Apply a brown shadow to your crease. Choose a light, warm brown that is only a few shades darker than your skintone for a more natural, innocent look or go with a dark brown for a darker more sophisticated look. The color should be applied to the deepest part of your crease, from the outer corner to the inner corner following the natural shape of your eye. If you have monolids, you can skip this step or use it to fake a crease.
  6. Use a clean brush and blend out the brown. The color should be darkest in your crease and gradually fade as you get closer to the brow. Don't blend on to the area below the crease. If you want more depth, apply a darker brown black to the deepest part of the crease.
  7. Using a dark brown or black pencil, line your upper waterline. Don't line the lashline itself.
  8. Apply false lashes. They should be long and curled. Don't worry about it looking fake, most dolls have ridiculous looking lashes. Curl your lashes so the falsies blend in, and apply a thin line of eyeliner to hide the band. I suggest using a liquid or gel eyeliner. Apply black or dark brown mascara. If you don't have falsies, just curl and apply mascara. Use a lash comb or clean mascara wand to clear clumps.
  9. Fill in your lower waterline with a white eyeliner for larger looking eyes. If you want the effect to be more natural, use a light color like peach or beige instead.
  10. Use a dark brown liner or eyeshadow to line your lower lashline. This line should be very thin. For an exaggerated effect, bring the white or light liner down past the waterline, or even your lashline, then use the dark brown to trace under the white to create a new lashline. You can connect your lower lashline to the upper lashline to look more natural.
  11. You can apply mascara to your bottom lashes or apply fake bottom lashes; however, most dolls have drawn on bottom lashes. Using a dark brown or black gel or liquid liner or eyeshadow (if you only have pencil, make sure it's sharpened), draw thin lines down from lashline. The longest lines should be in the outer corner and middle of the lashline. Try to mimic the shape of your own bottom lashes, only longer. If you already have long lower lashes, just apply mascara.
  12. Clean up the under eye area. Wipe any fallout and, if needed, apply concealer and powder.

Lips:

Dolls usually have small, pouty lips. You can go with light lips, for a sweeter look, or red for a dark, mature look.

  1. For both, make sure your lips are smooth and moisturized. You can apply lip primer. When you line your lips, make sure you have a defined and round cupid's bow and a round, pouty lower lip. You can look at pictures of dolls to find the perfect lip shape.
  2. For red lips, apply a lipliner that best matches your color of choice. Line and fill in your lips. Then apply your lipcolor. Your lips shouldn't be matte, but they shouldn't be glossy either. A lip color with a creamy formula that's not sheer will give you the best texture.
  3. For the lighter lips, apply a lipliner that is close to your skin tone. Apply a light peachy pink or nude pink color to the center of your lips then use your finger or a lip brush to blend it out so the color is darkest at the center and slowly fades. You can also just fill in the whole lip with the color. The texture should be the same as with the red lip.

Cheeks:

Last but not least, flushed cheeks give dolls their innocent look.

  1. Use a rosy pink or red blush. Don't apply directly to the apples of the cheeks, but rather near your jawline and blend in towards you nose. Don't be afraid to really add a lot; dolls have super flushed cheeks.
  2. Add any little extras like freckles, birthmarks or cracks. I suggest using liquid liner for that.

And you're done! Add a wig and costume if you want to complete the look.
