Golf: There's Clubs But No Balls

Things you’ll need:

  • Three decks of cards
  • Pen & Paper
  • 3 or more friends

The objective in this fast moving card game is to get the least amount of points in nine rounds.

Step One

Pick your dealer!

Step Two

The dealer now deals each competitor four cards, face down.

Step Three

Players can arrange their cards face down on the table in front of them without picking them up.

Step Four

Each player gets to pick two cards to peek at and then flip back face down. Keep in mind; you only get to peek once, so if you forget then too bad; you do not get to look again.

Step Five

The Dealer now flips the top card of the unused section of the deck face up [which is now the start of the discard deck] and continues to place it beside that portion of the deck in the middle of your table/playing space.

It’s time to go over how points are kept track of before we move into the actual play.

Point System

  • Ace = 1 pt.
  • Numbered Cards = their own face value.
  • Queen & Jack = 10 pts.
  • King = 0 pt.
  • Joker = -1 pt.

Just a tip: If you get two of the same card in your group of four the numbers cancel out and become zero. This is a real saver if you get stuck with a queen; all you need is another and your 10 points becomes zero. The exception to this rule is when you get two Jacks, in which case your points just stay -2.

Step Six

The player who has all their cards face up first signifies the end of the game. Each participant only gets one more turn after this.

Step Seven

You are only permitted to turn over one card per turn and once that card is turned over it’s permanent and your stuck with that amount of points. However, before flipping it over, you can take the card that’s currently on top of the discard deck or on the unused deck that’s face down and trade it before looking at it. If you decide to do this, place the card you’re trading face up on top of the discard deck.

Step Eight

The next player again gets to choose between his/her card, the discard pile or the unused, face down deck and so on…

Step Nine

Score keeper adds each players points together at the end of each round and at the end of the ninth round, whoever has the least amount of points is your champion!

A Hint or Two:

Make sure to keep track of what the players on each side of you are up to. Sometimes you can see helpful cards from them coming through the discard pile. You also need to watch out and make sure you don’t give the player on the receiving side of you a matching card unless you have to.
