If the location you have chosen is famous for its hauntings, you will want to do some research on the hauntings. Your research will help you learn what types of activity to look out for. If your location is famous for having furniture that moves, then that is something you will want to investigate. Your research is a vital part of your ghost hunt and can take you from being amateur to professional.

Step Three: Get Permission

This is the most important part of having a successful ghost hunt. Make sure you get permission from the owners or city if it is a public location. You do not want to get arrested for trespassing – this will get you in trouble and give other ghost hunters a bad name.

Step Four: Hunt Safe

Ghost hunting can get dangerous, so make sure you never hunt alone. Ghosts are usually non-violent, but people are not. Taking a buddy will help protect you from predators and ensure that someone is there if you do injure yourself.

Step Five: Gather Evidence

Ghost hunting is pointless if you have no evidence to study afterwards. Make sure you bring a camera and take lots of pictures. Notepads are very handy for remembering strange occurrences. Also, tape recorders should be carried with investigators at all times. When investigators ask questions, the tape recorders can pick up things that the human ears cannot. This evidence is the only proof you have, so be sure to keep lots of it.

Step Six: Review Evidence

If your ghost hunt was successful, you’ll have a lot of evidence to go through. Listen closely to the tape recordings and review your photos thoroughly. With any luck, you’ll be the envy of everyone in the scientific community in no time – or maybe just a laughing stock!
