How to Properly Clean Discs
We’ve all been met at one point in time where one of our favorite discs, whether it be a video game, CD, or movie, has quit working because of scratches. I know it usually makes me so upset to lose something like that but I've found a simple way of cleaning them because the scratches may just be dirty, and hoping for the best. This method is fairly common so you may know it, and if not, then stay tuned and read on.
What you’ll need:
- Cotton Swab/Q-Tip
- Dish Soap
Steps:
- Start off by wetting the disc that you want to be clean, make sure to only wet the reflective surface of the disc. After you’ve done that put some dish soap on it then proceed to step 2.
- Now that you have the soap on your disc, gently massage it with more water until it comes to a gentle lather. Afterwards take a cotton swab and rub away any stubborn dirt spots to get those off. When those are off proceed to your last and final step.
- Last but not least rinse the disc off and dry it with a soft cotton cloth, making sure to gently dry it and not scrub too hard otherwise you might damage it more than clean it. If there is more to be taken off just re-do these steps and then you’re done!
Notes:
If your disc is broken or scratched too deeply then even this method might not work, so your disc might be a goner. Otherwise, if it is just dirty with a few stubborn spots then just clean it off using the above method and you should be good to go.
